Sara Cwynar is featured in 'Imaginary Engine' @large.emerige For its opening, Large presents Imaginary Engine, an exhibition conceived by curator @ceciliaalemani, a major figure on the international art scene. Taking the distinctive history of île Seguin, once home to the Renault factories, as its starting point, the exhibition explores the connections between artistic creation, industry, innovation and society. Bringing historic works from the Fonds Renault pour l’Art et la Culture into dialogue with contemporary creations, it examines the major transformations of the modern world and the ways in which artists respond to them. Bringing together more than one hundred works created from the 1930s to the present day, Imaginary Engine features 55 artists from 23 countries, nearly half of whom live or work in France. 17 artists were invited by Large to create new works especially for the exhibition. Conceived as a journey through the industrial memory of île Seguin and the worlds of imagination it continues to inspire, the exhibition invites visitors to look afresh at the relationships between people, machines and the narratives that shape our time. Exhibition continues until 7 March 2027 📆 IMAGE: Exhibition view, Imaginary Engine, Large - Cultures contemporaines, ile Seguin, Boulogne-Billancourt, 2026 Photo: Aurélien Mole @cwynars #saracwynar

Art Basel Paris previews today ✨ The Approach Galerie Seine | Booth K6 21 - 25 October Sara Cwynar @cwynars Kira Freije @kirafreije Olivia Jia @oliviacjia John Maclean @johnbetamac Sandra Mujinga @iamsandramujinga Lisa Oppenheim @furryteacup Paloma Proudfoot @palomaproudfoot Email sales-enquiries@theapproach.co.uk to request a preview ✉️ In her Art Basel Paris presentation, Sara Cwynar’s photographic works explore sleeplessness and late capitalism, considering how the constant stream of images and information encountered through phones and everyday life resembles a dream state. Her work examines design, fashion, beauty and desire, questioning whether sleep remains one of the few spaces beyond the reach of technology. Images include a counterfeit Rolex watch, a pink peony, and a collage built over an archival photograph of a doll modelling early French fashion. The photographs are set in bespoke frames including incidental details around the interior which are coded references to things such as excerpts from T.S Eliot’s The Waste Land, quotes from AI expert Eliezer Yudkowsky, images from the US Army Beta Pictorial Tests, along with the work title and date etc. These works form part of Cwynar’s ongoing research reflecting on the evolution of consumption, drawing parallels with contemporary e-commerce aesthetics. Cwynar’s work engages with these unattainable ideals - the images and fantasies that sustain cycles of desire, circulating through celebrities, commodities, and identities that feel within reach yet remain perpetually out of grasp, existing most fully as photographs or as lines of advertising. Sara Cwynar (b. 1985, Vancouver, Canada) lives and works in New York, USA. Itll be up through the 26th and there will be performances by me at 3:33pm on Oct 19, 22 Context for other pics- @k8hardball sent me on a little art excursion last weekend and somehow I ran into @stuartcomer twice. Sara Cwynar is featured in ‘Character Development’ @mspfoundation co-presented with @kadistkadist Character Development gathers six moving image artworks, each featuring the artist on screen in different roles, taking the lead or among a cast, disguised or acting as narrator. In filmmaking, “character development” describes the arc of transformation a protagonist undergoes through a story, the process by which their identity or values are tested and changed. Artists: Sophia Al-Maria, Korakrit Arunanondchai, Sara Cwynar, Alex Da Corte, Beatrice Gibson, Martine Syms ‘Cwynar appears throughout the film in so many different roles it feels like a fever dream of personhood. From that first glimpse of her insomniac eye, she multiplies: eating a composed Sweetgreen salad; running red-manicured fingers along a Mercedes-Benz logo; spinning impressively in an arabesque into attitude on skates; moon-lighting as a red-lipped car model; red-gloved in Marlboro racing suit; controlling the camera; feeding a model their lines; setting props; donning an 18th-century gown; pushing the camera around the track in a bellhop uniform; launching into a graceful double axel, and carrying the camera on skates. She is everywhere, always just barely showing you how she got there. Whether behind the camera or in front, she maintains a plainclothes uniform: red on the bottom, blue—baby, mainly—or green on top, dressed for the role of artist, which perhaps encompasses or surpasses all the others.’ – Excerpt from the exhibition text by @heidirabben Exhibition continues until Saturday 31 October 📆 IMAGE: Installation view, Character Development, at Minnesota Street Project Foundation, September 10 - October 31, 2026, co-presented with KADIST IMAGE 6-8: Sara Cwynar Baby Blue Benzo, 2024 Anamorphic video projection, digital video and 16mm film transferred to video 21 minutes, sound Overall dimensions variable Photo: Grunder @cwynars #saracwynar
