At least $48 million… That’s what Toronto city staff estimated it would cost to remove the bike lanes on Bloor, Yonge, and University. The first pic shows the area near Bloor and Islington, where Toronto Police Service dispatched 17 vehicles for a peaceful gathering protesting the bike lane removals starting this week. We already spent about $27 million to design and build these multi-use active transportation lanes. Last week, the removal started. A bike makes a place feel like yours. You slow down, and you notice more. But that only happens if you feel safe enough to ride. On Bloor, the data shows the lanes worked. After they went in between Avenue Road and Shaw, collisions involving cyclists dropped, and so did injuries to pedestrians and drivers. City staff also found that ripping out the lanes would barely improve travel times. Gridlock is a real problem. But paying to rebuild roads we just rebuilt, only to make them less safe for almost no traffic gain, is hard to call good value. That’s true, whatever your politics. It’s disappointing to see the @ongov fall behind in cycling leadership, especially given over Bike Share Toronto’s 10,000 bikes, including 2,000 e-bikes, and 7.8 million annual riders. Consider writing to your local MP today! Most importantly, don’t forget to VOTE in Toronto’s 2026 municipal election, Monday, Oct. 26, from 10 am to 8 pm. ☑️ Present Mayor, @oliviachow has fought in council to protect and expand Toronto’s bike lane network and expand TTC service, which she touted as traffic strategies in her 2023 mayoral platform, saying they would give people alternatives to driving. Chow is promising to freeze TTC fares for a fourth-straight year. She vows to implement a weekly fare cap of 10 rides, if re-elected. For @bradfordgrams, he has promised to remove the Bloor Street bike lanes from South Kingsway W. to Resurrection Road, saying it would alleviate congestion in Etobicoke (already started). He vowed to remove 12 km of red bus lanes in Scarborough. He is also promising to install platform edge doors at subway stations and bolster Toronto police presence at stations. #GOVOTE #BikeLanes #bikelanessavelives #urbanplanning

The protected bike lanes along Bloor Street West between Islington and Royal York are gone. Cycle Toronto will be leading a complimentary Bike Bus on municipal Election Day through this dangerous gap in our cycling network. The Bike Bus movement has grown over recent years, typically with groups of children biking to school and adult volunteers along for support. The Cycle Toronto Bike Bus is open to riders of all ages and abilities, whether you’re heading to the polls or anywhere else. Riders will take the lane as a group and follow all Highway Traffic Act rules. Look for the Cycle Toronto flag and cargo bike! October 25, 2026 - Cycle Toronto provided a final pre-election email to its members with a reminder to VOTE on Monday, October 26, and highlighting the responses to the questionnaire they sent to all candidates. It's a great resource to see where candidates stand on cycling issues. Strangely, only one of the frontrunners in the mayor's race responded. The email update also specifically addressed the High Park Movement Strategy. Cycle Toronto asked candidates if they would pledge to continue advancing the strategy, including road redesigns to reduce conflicts between park users. 4 of the 10 candidates committed to this pledge, with 3 abstaining from that question and two failing to respond. Only one candidate said they would not support continued implementation of the High Park Movement Stratrategy. But, as the email states, "High Park Access" also surveyed the candidates and some candidates provided contradictory responses. "High Park Access" asked candidates if they would suspend implementation of the High Park Movement Strategy. Nadia Guerrera, told Cycle Toronto she would continue implementation of the strategy, but she told "High Park Access" she would suspend implementation. Other candidates who abstained from that question on Cycle Toronto's survey told "High Park Access" they would suspend implementation. The only candidates who were consistent with their responses were Diana Chan McNally and Vanessa Raponi. Debbie King provided a lengthy response that seemed to reflect the objectives of the High Park Movement Strategy without explicitly stating that she supports it. Super happy to be with my dear friend Dana again. She loaned me her ‘guest Brompton’ and we were off at 6am for our beloved George’s yoga class — after we were ready for a bacon~ tastic 🥓 breakfast sandwich at @simpleloafbakehouse 🌳 @prospect_park called to me to enJOY a car(e) free urban park! So much inspiration: Prospect Park in Brooklyn is 526 acres w 10 million visitors a year “Brooklyn’s Backyard” #UrbanPark #CarFree with a zoo, the first urban-area Audubon Center in the nation, an ice rink, a band shell, a carousel, & dozens of athletic & recreational facilities - all within the interior of the park. People take transit to the park with wagons loaded down with gear OR ride bicycles. There are plenty of paved paths from an interior parking lot for accessibility. 🦼👨🏿‍🦯 Next destination Bushwick. My route was stressful without bike lanes. I found a new bookshop - great curation! but not impressed by their soup 🥣 unfortunately left disappointed. Then to the East River and Domino Park! Did you know you can get bocce balls to play on their pitch. They have provided areas to play (a new skating rink too!) & linger but did not stay long as the sounds of construction were too much. Crossed the wonderfully wide Williamsburg Bridge and found my way back to my son’s place. Saw a LOT of small trucks &/or bike trucks with businesses ranging from a tailor to a 🔑 locksmith !! Sometimes with a huge truck beside it - the stark contrast of size matters! A bit of a rest until meeting up for a JOy Ride with @bromptonusa NYC friends tonight!!

Could you imagine a city installing bike lane infrastructure only to then rip it out? Mindboggling. 🤯 Toronto's municipal election has put this on full display with candidate Brad Bradford supporting Doug Ford's removal of bike lanes he once voted for. This marks a flip-flop that will cost tens of millions of dollars. Removal of these lanes will make communities more dangerous and cost the lives of cyclists for no reason other than to fuel a culture war. @cycletoronto #toronto #topoli #biketo
