UPDATE ON MY TIER 2 SOC ANALYST POSITION 👇🏽

I went through the final interview today, and I felt like it went good!

Here are two questions they asked me and how I would answer them.

1️⃣ How do you differentiate between a true positive and a false positive?

Start by gathering context around the alert, including the users, systems, and processes involved.

Validate your IOCs and review the surrounding activity in your SIEM or EDR to determine whether it’s legitimate behavior or an actual threat.

2️⃣ Walk me through a threat hunt you’ve conducted, from hypothesis to discovery.

Explain how you developed your hypothesis, researched the threat actor, gathered and validated IOCs, and searched for those indicators within your environment.

Then explain your findings, any actions you took, and how you documented and reported the results.

GETTING INTO CYBERSECURITY REQUIRES A PLAN 👇🏽

When trying to get into cybersecurity, you always hear about getting certifications, earning a degree, or attending a boot camp to gain experience.

And while those things can help, one thing that often gets overlooked is having a structured plan to understand what you need to learn to qualify for these jobs and then taking action on that plan.

On Episode 2 of @breach1teach1, cybersecurity engineer @williamtjsims of @cythority breaks down his 5E Formula for Success and how you can apply it to cybersecurity, your career, and other areas of your life.

Here are the five E’s:

1️⃣ Exposure

Expose yourself to different opportunities, people, and career paths to understand what’s available to you.

2️⃣ Education

Once you find something that interests you, start learning about it through courses, books, podcasts, mentors, and other resources.

3️⃣ Execution

Put what you’re learning into practice through projects, internships, or other opportunities to gain experience.

4️⃣ Evolution

As you continue learning and applying your knowledge, you’ll naturally begin to grow, improve your skills, and gain experience.

5️⃣ Empowerment

Over time, the knowledge and experience you’ve gained will give you confidence, create more opportunities for yourself, and put you in a position to help others do the same.

The biggest takeaway I got from this conversation is that growth is a process, whether that’s in cybersecurity, your career, or life in general.

You have to understand what’s out there, educate yourself, and actually put that knowledge to use because that’s how you gain experience and continue improving.

Year 6 at @investfestival was done right because of all the work done in between. Grateful to have the pleasure of crossing paths with some of the brightest minds on the internet as well as meeting a few members of @cythority, who were once all complete strangers.

Spent years building so when I pop the hood it’s a V12 underneath, not to look cool. Get active and get to it.

Winners lose more than losers even try. You fall down 99, stand up 100. One win can change everything.

INVESTFEST 2026 RECAP

My first @investfestival was an amazing experience.

For context, I’m 22 & have worked in cybersecurity since 17. Most conferences I’ve attended were cybersecurity focused, so InvestFest took me outside my industry.

I came to learn about investing, ownership, & building wealth for my family. Youngest in Charge is about generational wealth & giving my parents opportunities they may not have had.

I learned from Chanise Anderson, @thereellawyer, through conversations & her asset protection class on trusts, insurance, & protecting what you’ve built. I’d rather learn this now than later.

I met the Queen of AI, @alicialyttle, talked cybersecurity with her, & learned from her AI agents panel. I can’t wait to implement what she recommended.

I also met my first billionaire, @johnmorganesq. My dad asked him for one piece of advice:

“Early to bed. Early to rise. Work like hell. Love what you do.”

I completed 15+ interviews. Thank you to everyone who gave me their time & listened to my story. Anytime I can talk cybersecurity, Youngest in Charge, & giving back, I’m all for it.

I even got interviewed by Ian Dunlap, @themasterinvestor’s media team. I’ve invested since 18, & his Two Tech, Two Index strategy helped me build a five figure investment account at 22.

It was full circle being there with my mentor @williamtjsims, founder of @cythority. I attended my first conference with Will before I had professional experience, & years later we’re still in these rooms together.

Of course, I experienced it with my pops, @shantaramstill, my official dadager 😂. Thank you for pushing me, helping me land interviews, advocating for me & always being in my corner. I love you, Pops.

My dad put me on to @earnyourleisure years ago, so thank you @rashadbilal & @troymillings for creating this event & being strong role models for us. I look at Rashad, Troy & Ian as financial mentors from afar.

My biggest takeaway? Being in the room is only part of the opportunity. InvestFest gets you around high level people, but once you’re there, it’s on you. Introduce yourself. Ask questions. Network. Follow up.
