What awesome timing last night to be asked to do this in #57thbirthday season. Thank you @dinocoent for the booking. Thank you @d2luis for handling the details on the ground and arranging my new custom @brooklynnets jersey. Thanks friends @superbizzee @amuid @yannasbananas for your backstage support! “I get by with a little help from my friend” as Joe Cocker once sang. Official anthem footage on its way. I’ll share soon! #gordonchambers #brooklynnets

Shoutout to the awesome staff of the team and #barclayscenter and the fellow performers who rocked the crowd for this 60th anniversary opening night celebration!

Let’s all shine our light bright and give God glory always in every assignment.

Huge congratulations to our composer Dominique Luis, who just won BEST COMPOSER – THRILLER at the @nywift x @iwomantv Online Shorts Festival for The Shower!!!

@d2luis came onto this project at a more-than-favorable rate because he believed in the film, and because we both saw an opportunity for him to expand his work in sound design and composing for film.

Well… BABY. LOOK AT GOD. 😂🏆

What started as a creative collaboration and a chance to stretch into new territory turned into an AWARD-WINNING SCORE!!!

This is what I love about independent filmmaking. Sometimes you’re building the thing AND building each other at the same damn time.

Dom, thank you for trusting us, bringing your talent to The Shower, and helping create the sound of Denise & Amy’s world and @theisabellepierre 's words. You understood the assignment. 🎶🖤

And if you haven’t watched The Shower yet, you can watch it FREE through October 16th on iWomanTV.

Go listen to Dom's work as you watch the film.

And celebrate our people when they take the damn trophy home. 🏆

NEWARK INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Friday evening, New York to Newark. A drive that should’ve taken 45 minutes took us almost 1 hour and 45 minutes because of traffic. But this too is a part of the journey.
So I sat back and thought, wow… what a dream it is to be heading to a theater to watch a film I poured my heart into. Again.

And I got to do this part of the journey with my talented and supportive partner. We made cute videos, talked, laughed, and spent a lot of the drive riding in silence.

When we finally arrived, the excitement and nervousness were vibrating through my body. We got our festival passes, took pictures, talked with friends and family, and then were escorted into this huge, beautiful theater.

This time, I sat between @erincollett, our DP, who was seeing the completed film for the first time, and @lainglaing, whose presence is always comforting.

Then BETTA FISH began.

I kept glancing around the theater, watching reactions, listening to the laughs, feeling the tension in the room. And by the end, I felt connected to everyone through this story.
Afterward, people came up to hug me and tell me what the film meant to them. I really need to start collecting these quotes.

BETTA FISH has freed me in so many ways. It has connected me with people who feel seen by this story and have trusted me with pieces of their own.
And hearing people talk about everything from the cinematography, lighting, sound design, color and set design to the performances makes me especially happy because I know how much every single person poured into this film.

Newark, thank you for creating space for independent filmmakers and giving BETTA FISH another chance to be experienced on the big screen.

Until the next one!

“I didn’t want it to end.”

That’s the kind of reaction every filmmaker hopes for.

August 30, 2026.

The day BETTA FISH finally met an audience.

Seeing my film on the big screen for the first time as a director was a feeling I’ll never forget. But what made the day even more special was looking out and seeing so many familiar faces.

I’m incredibly grateful to have a community of family and friends who show up for me no matter where in the world they have to travel. They showed up to BronzeLens with so much love and support, and I felt every bit of it. ❤️

And then there were filmmakers I had just met who came out to support BETTA FISH. That meant so much to me. There is something really special about filmmakers showing up for other filmmakers.

Having @lainglaing , @iammilanis , and @d2luis there to experience the screening with me made it even more meaningful. These are people who helped bring this story to life, and getting to share that moment with them was everything.

And that huge applause from the audience… 🥹
I’ll never forget that sound.

My first festival screening. A day I’ll carry with me forever.
We made it to the big screen yall!

Award-Winning Short Film Don't Be Desperate, Starring D. Woods, Streams Free On YouTube For A Limited Time Before Its Streaming Debut

Yhá Mourhia Wright announces that the award-winning comedic short film Don’t Be Desperate, starring D. Woods, is streaming free on YouTube for a limited time before its streaming debut. The film is now available on OG Network, Kweli TV, multiple Roku FAST channels, and iWoman TV. The free YouTube window is open now and will close soon. Free. Limited. Yours.

Don’t Be Desperate is a quirky but honest exploration into the colorful imagination of Aliyah Stanbeck, a woman in her late 30s who is a hopeless romantic with her head in the clouds but grounded by the fears of her “ticking clock.” The official logline: an imaginative and anxious singer receives life-changing news on the eve of her first performance in years, forcing her to confront her deepest desires and her worst fears.

Since its 2022 premiere, Don’t Be Desperate has built a real track record. It was an Official Selection at the Hip Hop Film Festival in 2022 and the Newark International Film Festival in 2022, won the Independent Spirit Award at the 2023 Detroit Black Film Festival, and earned an Outstanding Music nomination at the 2023 Micheaux Film Festival, one of the most respected stages in Black independent film. It also aired nationally on Aspire TV. Music sits at the center of the story, anchored by the original song “Don’t Leave Me,” written by Wright, and a score by Nolan Mersier.
