#DGSDelivers— Today on DGS’ 15-Year Anniversary, DGS, joined by Mayor Bowser, the Department of Employment Services (DOES), & the Green Wave, cut the ribbon on the new $73M DC Infrastructure Academy (DCIA) at the former Spingarn HS Campus in #Ward5!

“When we launched the DC Infrastructure Academy in 2018, we had a simple goal: make sure DC residents were first in line for the good-paying careers being created in one of the fastest-growing industries in the country,” said Mayor Bowser.

“For 15 years, DGS has been building what matters for DC residents, and I can’t think of a better way to kick off our 15th anniversary than with a facility designed to create opportunity,” said DGS Director Hunter & Spingarn HS Alum. “The projects we build do more than change the physical landscape of our city. They create opportunities, strengthen communities and, in this case, can change the trajectory of someone’s life. We are proud to give the historic Spingarn campus a new chapter that will help DC residents build theirs too.”

The new 50,000 sqft of renovated interior space features:

• An automotive lab
• Instructional and training rooms
• A Pepco training yard
• Flexible outdoor work areas
• A north courtyard terrace
• A new main entrance

The 12,000 sqft of exterior space includes automotive bays designed to allow students to gain hands-on experience working with large vehicles, such as @metroforward buses.

DCIA through DOES, builds on the Bowser Administration’s efforts to connect more DC residents to training and career opportunities in the infrastructure industry.

This project would not be possible without our design-build team, Smoot Construction and @bell_architects, @vmdoarchitects, @cmtainc, @brailsford_and_dunlavey, DGS Project Managers, Robert Cooper & Terry Fauntleroy, DOES, Spingarn Alum, CM Parker, and all involved!

Thank you to everyone who joined Loving Arms: Connections for Kinship.

🌟Supporting Community Connection - a great time was had by all at our partner Genevieve N. Johnson Senior Day Care Center's Annual Community Wellness Fair, Bazaar & Fish Fry in Ward 4, featuring 60+ vendors and free wellness resources.

Having access to community based events and health screening opportunities supports older adults as they age in place and stay connected.

Older adults from Forest Hills of DC, @iona.senior Services, Colony House, Lamond, Ft. Stevens, Kingdom Care Senior Village, @seaburyresources for Aging, @vidaseniorcenters , and GNJ all joined in on the fun.

GNJ is a valuable community partner providing rehabilitative, social and recreational activities and services for older adults to help maintain a high quality of life, and it supports families and caregivers with essential assistance caring for their loved ones.

Earlier this week, Director Carey, Director Purdy, and Deputy Director Manning visited Delta Towers, an affordable senior housing community on the H Street NE corridor.

Our team spent time listening to residents, learning about their needs, and making direct connections to helpful resources through @dacl_dc and the Office of the Tenant Advocate. Grateful for the opportunity to support our seniors and strengthen community partnerships.

🚶‍♀️💛 At Vida Senior Centers, we continue promoting health, wellness, and connection through our regular walking activities as part of DACL’s Health Promotion program.

We love seeing our seniors stay active, enjoy the outdoors, and share meaningful moments together in community. Participants like Lynnitta remind us how powerful movement, joy, and companionship can be for healthy aging.

Walking together helps strengthen the body, lift the spirit, and support a more active and independent lifestyle. 💛
