It’s not often that music holds grief and beauty in the same breath - last night was one of those moments @nickcaveofficial - Not only that, Kylie Minogue joined him on stage for one of my fav songs - Where the Wild Roses Grow. 🖤🌹Unforgettable! @dahlberg

I drove to the sea to breath

To see and take in the vastness and spaciousness of the ocean

To breath the sea air
the wind that’s traveled thousands of miles with out ever questioning where it’s going

Sitting on pebbles listening to the sound of the waves crashing against them

The pebbles don’t resist
They rub against each other which is what makes them who they are

Like pebbles we are all completely unique

Forged by our lives victories and failures

Collectively pebbles make the beach
The barrier that absorbs the seas energy

We can come together and absorb each others and the worlds energy

The ripple of our collective embodiment is not that different from the shore

Forever changing
Forever adapting
Forever stronger as our individual selves connected as one

I’m not quite ready to move on from ‘breathing awareness’ because I’m thinking about PREVENTION - for anyone reading this with children or planning to have them, I can’t emphasise enough the enormous importance of being aware of how your child is breathing. It could save them and you from so much unnecessary suffering, health complications, dental challenges, time, effort, trauma and money.
Mouth breathing in children will have a negative impact on their development both physically and mentally
1. It will affect the development of a child’s whole facial structure, this can lead to a high and narrow upper palette causing obstruction to the nasal area leaving no choice but to mouth breathe. There’s also decreased Jaw development which can equal overcrowding of the teeth resulting in unnecessary extractions that only exasperate the problems further. We don’t solve this problem by removing teeth, we need to grow more jaw, expansion in other words; which by the way is possible, and in adults too. The last thing we want to do is take teeth out, this should only be a very last resort!
As the child’s face develops insufficiently their face structure can become narrower, elongated and the eyes more sunken.
2. A child mouth breathing will not have sufficient slow wave/deep sleep which can lead to developmental delays and issues, exhaustion, learning difficulties even ADHD has been linked! Poor concentration, mood swings, digestive issues, weakened immune system, bed wetting, night terrors and so much more.
3. Oral health in children and adults is hugely impacted by mouth breathing caused by a dry mouth (especially after sleep) meaning no saliva. Saliva is essential for our oral ‘microbiome’ ( good bacteria) to thrive which is what protects the mouth and teeth.
I’ll talk tomorrow about what you can do to ensure your children remain nose breathers and where to start if they’re already mouth… 🌱
