For the #Spain #magazine, @emmalathamphillips and @daisywingatesaul ventured into the Andalusian wilds with @georgescottrides - and the resulting story is a thing of beauty.
.
“Like the farmers, merchants and bandoleros that have gone before us, our merry band of outliers traverse the trails that tie together the Sierra Norte National Park. We wind between olive and almond groves, our horses’ hooves leaving clouds of pink dust in their wake. Below us, rounded hills lie like a fistful of fallen marbles. We push gnarled branches away from our faces as we descend into emerald valleys scissored into segments by the Huéznar River. Here, we find whitewashed farmhouses ensconced like opals amongst quaking aspen leaves. Pocket-sized vineyards slip into the grips of late autumn, a mass of red and orange made more vibrant by the bright blue sky.”

The days I spent with @georgescottrides for @lodestarsanthology The Spain Issue were filled with pure, unadulterated joy. @daisywingatesaul and I joined five strangers (now friends) and a team of carefree ‘cowboys’ on a three-day riding experience through Andalucia’s Sierra Norte de Sevilla.

I was fast to fall in love with the rhythm of the days – get up, ride, eat lunch, drink wine, ride, eat dinner, drink wine and dance. Phones were switched off, and we were left with the best of everything you could possibly need: good conversation, incredible local ingredients, candlelit tables, picnics beneath the sun, beautiful landscapes and the company of animals.

The days felt as if they were ripped from a book. This theatricality seeped into the whole experience – as we rode through the hills, lunches would appear in the landscape as if a curtain had been pulled back. And we spent the night at Taramona, a part-ruined farmhouse aglow with candlelight.

This story was one of my favourites to date and you can find some select paragraphs here. If you want to read it in full, shop the issue via my link in bio, and if this sounds like the trip for you, search https://www.georgescottrides.com/ride

In Crete you get a complimentary pudding and a flask of Raki after every meal. This time is it loukoumades. Little donuts smothered in chocolate sauce. Health food .
