Can we just get real for a sec? Sometimes it looks like this. It’s not always The North Face catalog pictures.
I was sooooo done at that moment. I just wanted in.
Calves were 100% smoked.

For those interested, I’ll be putting on a free half-day clinic soon entitled “Proper Mounting of an Ice Cave ” or perhaps “When You’re Just Over It”.
Open to both guides (some of you need this!) and recreational climbers alike. I’ll be sharing valuable insight and information about getting absolutely humbled in tight quarters way up on a steep ice wall. Spots are filling fast, let me know.

Captured by @daleremsberg on the Weeping Wall early this week.

What.A.Day. 🤙🤙

Official word is in and I’ve passed the @amga1979 alpine guide exam and I am now an AMGA Alpine Guide!!

From as far back as 2007 with @riskepics I’ve traveled far and wide over the years - early experiences that shaped my judgement and respect for the mountains with @darenopeka and @rainbowweinstock

While I regret not pursuing the alpine guide certification sooner (I earned my rock guide in 2015), finances and other issues with access to terrain and self doubt added friction with the process. I doubled down starting in 2021 completing the alpine certification program in 4 years time - all while working a full time administrative job.

From the avalanche training and education to the formal AMGA alpine programs and all the training days in-between… this was a massive effort that has taken so much to realize and I encourage folks to reach out if they have questions and are considering this process.

The AMGA Alpine Guide Certification Program requires:
* 60 formal program days - AMGA and Avalanche Edu
* 225 required resume routes
* $23,000 in tuition cost (not including travel and lodging expenses)

A big shout out to my wife Bronwyn who is my closest climbing and adventure partner. She has been supportive of making many of our adventures count towards my becoming an alpine guide.

Props to all the people who’ve had a special influence on my development including the many guests that I’ve shared adventures with in the high alpine (a few to name here):
@daleremsberg @mtnguidejoeyt @soucymtnguide @bustercruzmountainguide @progression_mountain_guide @_stoic_ @stee.bo @jenniefiala @rockefellerfiala @climbermatthew @andyhansenmountainguide @tetonalpinist @eric_whewell @ericlarson_mountainguide @washingtonalpineguide @paulkoubek

A big thanks to @mammutna for their support with equipment that allowed me to thrive along with their alpine enthusiasm

Along with my close team at @amga1979 who supported my time out of the office and encouraged me every step of the way.

Now only 2 more ski programs left… time to buckle down my boots, sharpen my edges, and set my sights on finishing the process to earn the renown @ifmgaofficial certification
