Quick trip down to LA for the weekend. Stop at Wally’s for charcuterie and wine 🍷. @mccollumfamilyvineyard is represented - by the bottle or by the glass. For our pre-dinner wine, went with the 2010 @dallavallevineyards. If you ever make it down to LA, stop at Wally’s. You will not be disappointed. Cheers!

Another jam packed trip and magical trip to Napa, this time an excuse for philanthropy. I always look for what sets one winery apart from another other than the wine itself. @staglinfamilyvineyard has found a way to balance success with giving back, and it was nothing short of an honor to do the same and work the @onemindorg music festival, which has to date raised over $700,000,000 (count those zeros) towards brain health research. Thank you for having me and an awesome team of fellow sommeliers, and thank you for all the good you do! Another huge thanks to the wineries that came out to support and hosted us on our field trip. Special shout to @vinodiva for the invite and entertainment—you are amazing. #whipashitty #groupphoto

A privilege to be able to give back to the community.
One of the most important assets in the Napa Valley is @olehealthfoundation providing much needed medical resources to all of those in need.
It was a pleasure to lend our skills alongside this group of talented Sommeliers.
Thank you Naoko and Maya for the invitation.
Also, thank you @quintessawinery for hosting!

Grateful to be a part of Vida OLE for the second year in a row at the beautiful Quintessa Winery.

What makes this event special goes far beyond the wine, the food, or the setting. It’s about COMMUNITY.

OLE Health plays such an important role in Napa Valley, providing access to quality healthcare for the people who live, work, raise families, and help make this valley what it is. From medical and dental care to behavioral health, nutrition, and other essential services, their work is a reminder that strong communities are built when people have access to the care they need. (CommuniCare+OLE)

I’m grateful to be able to support an organization that believes healthcare should be accessible to everyone. Being part of the solution means showing up, supporting the organizations doing the work, and understanding that access to healthcare is bigger than Napa Valley. It is a conversation that affects communities everywhere.

A huge thank you to Quintessa for hosting, and to Dalla Valle, Spottswoode, and all of the wineries, businesses, donors, volunteers, and partners who came together to support this mission.

Napa Valley is known around the world for wine, but what continues to inspire me is the COMMUNITY behind it.

Thank you, OLE Health, for the work you do every single day. I’m honored to support the mission and grateful to be part of Vida OLE once again.

The OLE Health Foundation closed its 40th anniversary weekend Saturday with the Vida OLE! Dinner & Auction at Quintessa in Rutherford. Guests began with a Fiesta reception featuring bites from Brasswood, Model Bakery and Brindare, then sat for a dinner by Brindare's Chef Nash Cognetti paired with wines from Dalla Valle Vineyards and Quintessa, followed by a live auction of rare wine collections and travel experiences.

The evening also honored Madeline Hernandez, an OLE Health board member and North Bay Regional Directing Attorney at the Immigration Institute of the Bay Area, and Darioush Khaledi, founder of Darioush, who received the foundation's 2026 John Shafer Visionary Award. According to the foundation, this year's proceeds launch a $5 million campaign to buy and expand OLE Health's St. Helena clinic, nearly doubling its capacity for the more than 5,000 patients it serves each year.

For one evening in Rutherford, vintners, chefs and neighbors gathered around a shared table with a single aim, care for everyone who lives and works in Napa County.

Congratulations to Darioush Khaledi, this year’s recipient of the #OLEHealthFoundation’s John Shafer Visionary Award. The presentation to the Darioush Winery proprietor will be part of next week’s Vida OLE! Weekend, September 17th to 19th.
.
. The nonprofit OLE Health Foundation, which provides healthcare for #NapaValley residents and workers, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. What impressed me most while researching a 2022 Napa Valley Life piece that included the foundation were the stories of individuals, often at their most vulnerable moments, whose lives the group’s services substantially improved. (OLE Health of Napa and Solano merged in 2023 with CommuniCare of Yolo County to form CommuniCare+OLE.) . . .
.
. The Vida OLE! 2026 hot ticket is the Dinner & Auction on September 19th @QuintessaWinery. William and I were lucky enough to attend a few years ago and had a terrific time. Such a smile on his face when he learned we’d be returning! ...
.
. Click the bio link @OleHealthFoundation for info about tickets to the dinner and auction. If you buy a weekend pass, you can also attend one of the vintners’ dinners on September 18th @OpusOneWinery, @StonyHillVineyard, and @TheoremVineyards.
.
. A little background from the Vida OLE! press release: . . .
.
. “This year’s event also serves as the kickoff of a $5 million capital campaign to support the recently announced purchase and expansion of OLE Health’s St. Helena health center in the heart of downtown at 1222 Pine Street. All proceeds from the Vida OLE! 2026 events will go toward providing a permanent home for the clinic and nearly doubling its capacity with added exam rooms, dedicated behavioral health consultation spaces, team spaces, and enhanced amenities for the more than 5,000 patients served each year.
.
. “When nearly six in ten Up Valley residents rely on CommuniCare+OLE for primary care, our St. Helena center is essential to our mission of ensuring everyone has access to high-quality care close to home,” said Naoko Dalla Valle (pic 4), Chair of the OLE Health Foundation Board of Directors.

How to spend a particularly good Wednesday: lunch with the always fascinating John Atkinson at Farm Shop (excellent Danbury Ridge and this lovely Terre de l’Elu); then Dalla Valle, always one of Napa’s more elegant Cabs and now more delicate than ever, with winemaker Francois Vignaud; and then Philipponnat - the whole fabulous range, with Charles P and Thomas Jorez. And the damsons I foraged yesterday, cooked and pushed through a colander for minimum tannin extraction. You see, I have learnt something.

The lineup you’ll be talking about for a while. Winemaking on another level. Thanks to the team at @electricbleula for setting this up for us, they’ve built something special over there.

Wow, Maya at its absolute best. 🍷🇺🇸

After loving the 2014, the 2018 Maya by Dalla Valle somehow managed to leave an even bigger impression. Made from 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Cabernet Franc, this is an extraordinary expression of the estate’s hillside vineyards in Oakville.

The perfume alone is stunning, blackcurrant, blueberry, lavender, graphite, tobacco and subtle earthy notes, constantly revealing something new in the glass.

Then comes the palate. Rich, layered and incredibly concentrated, yet never heavy. The tannins are polished and silky, the freshness keeps everything beautifully defined, and that wonderful Cabernet Franc perfume runs through the entire wine.

And the finish just doesn’t want to end. Minutes later, the fruit, spice and mineral notes are still lingering.

Power, elegance and complexity in remarkable balance. Maya remains one of my absolute favourites from Napa Valley. 🍷🇺🇸
