🏖️ Feels like summer ☀️

Yesterday I was invited to go go the Malt festival (Moutfestival) in my former hometown Arnhem. Because of Covid, you had to sit down with a group, but that didn't stop anyone from having a lot of fun and drinking a lot of beer! 🏖️

I totally recommend going (I mean, it's a festival) and of you do, make sure to ask for a song (Plaatjesdraaiers) 🎵 hit me up for beer recommendations, get some quesadillas 🌮 (seriously, so good) and book a beer & cheese or beer & barbecue tasting by @arvidbergstrom 🍻

Filling a barrel for the very first time. Since I do this alone and the barrel is one floor up from the tanks i screwed the pipe to the barrel and then pumped the beer up. Worked fine. I had maybe 40l to little, due to the excessive overflow at first fermentation so I had the choice to fill up with some stout that was using US05 instead of the T58 or just leave the headspace and i decided to leave the air in. The beer can still go down some gravity points so I guess oxygen is not a big issue here.
I put in the base beer I made my highland park stout with, that was so kindly rated with an 4.5 by @damndemn today. The beer is a @bierlagersbottleshop exclusive right now since I have 80bottles that don’t carbonate and gave the only cans that were keg carbonated to andreas. Go get this treat, there’s only about 36cans, so it’s hyperexclusive.

Beer Geeks beat ALS. Beer Geeks is a Dutch Belgian (mostly Dutch) Facebook group of beergeeks. Not a small group but over 15.000 beer enthusiasts. I am in several beer groups but this one is by far my favorite.

Why? Because it's a community of open minded beer fanatics who love to explore beers of all styles and from all over the world. Most groups consist of beerlovers who venture into local beers and post pictures of beers one could buy in any supermarket.

Because of Beergeeks I am up to date on new releases and beers from all over the globe.

One of the first members sadly died of the horrendous disease ALS. ALS is a neuromuscular disease which detiriorates patients muscles. It is incurable as we speak. Research is being done towards finding a cure. Research means they need money to make progress.

Hence this third time edition of Beer Geeks beat ALS. Both previous editions gathered ten thousands of € for this good cause. Money earned with the release of a beer brewed specially for this occasion. Both times brewed at one of the participating breweries. First time at @vandestreekbier and the second time @jopenbier

Also tons of volunteers offered beers on auctions to raise money. This year again over 60 breweries joined in the effort. Six breweries were picked to brew six beers in this fight against ALS. All six were aided by all of the other participating breweries. This due to covid-19 since it was impossible to safely gather people from that many breweries and brew a beer.

So this year we are lucky in getting six EXCLUSIVE ALS beers.

Participating breweries and beers are:
* Moersleutel with White Chocolate Strawberry Pie, a fruited sour
* Kompaan with Luka out of Control a Barleywine
* Vandestreek with Short Circuit, a Triple NEIPA
* Bax with Fade to Black, a BIPA
* Walhalla with Beer Geeks beat ALS, an Imperial Porter
* Frontaal with The Iron Horse, a barleywine

I am really looking forward to trying these and am proud being a member of this wonderful community. Proud to share a passion and in the meanwhile support the battle against ALS.

Hoewel het land en de horeca nog even op z'n gat ligt, en de nieuwe content van 'Beer Geeks Television Live', is er nog voldoende content beschikbaar om eens lekker een avondje voor te gaan zitten.

Reeds allemaal terug te vinden op Facebook, maar van tijd tot tijd verschijnen er ook nieuwe video's op YouTube en nu, dus ook op BeerTube terug te vinden.

Last Friday we visited @stanislausbrewskovitch for the 16th episode of Beer Geeks Television Live.
We got to see the brewpub, the 'Sjikkertuin' and the new brewery where they brew beers for the pub and testbatches.
Rocco is an amazing guy to talk to and full of stories.
We tasted 3 really great beers and talked about (amongst many other things) winning awards with your beers.
Thanks Rocco and team Stanislaus for the warm welcome, tour and beers.
When I'm in Enschede I will definitely visit you guys again.

Last Friday we visited @brouwerij_frontaal for the 15th episode of Beer Geeks Television Live. We got a warm welcome by Roel and Dyan and the rest of the Frontaal team, did a tour through the brewery, got to hear the history of the brewery and did a great beertasting. Very interesting talks about beer, the brewery and loads of other stuff. We took a look at the new Greatest Hits series of Juice Punch (and tasted the new V10 straight from the tank) and looked at the new peel labels (so awesome). Roel had so many cool stories to tell, for instance about the hop program of new hops. It was a blast!
