Flashback to June 27th's opening weekend of great exhibitions @ccsbard of works by Betty Parsons, Uman and Marilou Schultz.

Three truly engaging exhibitions that are deeply informative and inspiring - making art and making history.

Schultz's work is a revelation. What a treat to meet @marilouschultz04 at the show! (See my photo here)

Dynamic exhibition design and curatorial insight by @kellytaxter @amysillman for Parsons' show; including Sillman's site-specific painting; @candicebhopkins curation of Schultz's exhibition and @lauren1cornell for Uman's show.

Great to see @davidebony @dan.scheffey and @lyndhurst_mansion Executive Director Howard Zar at the festivities during @upstateartweekend

My photos here of mainly the Parsons and Schultz exhibitions.

From CCS texts:
"Betty Parsons: An Expanded World" is the first major retrospective in over 25 years to examine the intertwined legacies of Betty Parsons (1900–1982) as both a pioneering abstract artist and trailblazing gallerist who shaped the trajectory of 20th century American art.

"Replica of a Chip: The Weaving Technology of Marilou Schultz" marks the first survey of acclaimed Navajo/Diné weaver and mathematics educator Marilou Schultz. On view through November 29, 2026, the exhibition positions Schultz as an innovator whose work across culture and industry has influenced the practices of art, Navajo weaving, and computer architecture over a 65-year career. Replica of a Chip traces the full arc of Schultz’s artistic practice, demonstrating how she has consistently pushed the boundaries of experimentation within Navajo weaving, first through teaching herself new weaving styles, dyes, and techniques and later, using it as a means to reflect on the digital technologies shaping contemporary culture and society—from early computer microprocessors to stock market tickers and other digital data.

People know how one loathes a long drive, but after finding happiness in Hudson amongst beautiful friends, some new and others not, this holiday weekend, I dove into some favorite driving albums from many Toms ago. Long drives home from Bennington and New York in dented Datsuns that couldn’t go above a certain speed but had a great cassette player came alive instantly in my bones.

The Pixie’s “Doolittle” may be the perfect punk record with its wall of sound and furious tempo. And The Smiths, always. Cocteau Twins still deep in the soul too. Felt like just yesterday waking up in my Bennington dorm after a Dressed to Get Laid party with a spinning hangover and a boy in the bed, boom box volume exacerbating it all. Sinead. She’ll always be our North Star guiding us home.
