We are excited to share the work of Daniel Pineda Luna as part of our 2027 Artist Spotlight Series!

Daniel Pineda-Luna is a first-generation MFA graduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno. Born and raised in Reno, Nevada, Daniel was first introduced to printmaking during his high school years creating monotypes using crayons and oil pastels.

Now he is exploring the versatility of linocut prints and turning it into a more sculptural form using real life objects like construction safety fences and wooden fence posts. As part of his practice, he also incorporates other disciplines into his printmaking including watercolor, acrylic, ceramic, fabric and sculpture.

Announcing participating artist Daniel Pineda-Luna -

@danbeprinting

Daniel Pineda Luna is a first-generation printmaker and MFA graduate from the University of Nevada, Reno. He finds inspiration within the Nevadan desert landscape, focusing on the interplay of isolation and human intervention with nature. Focusing mostly on relief printmaking, he creates his interpretation of human engagement with the environment in a consumerist society. In addition to printmaking, Daniel also enjoys book arts and loves to incorporate language into his work.

Daniel is passionate about working within his community to bring printmaking as a staple art practice. He volunteers with Mountain View Montessori and UNR Extension 4H afterschool programs.

I’ve had the incredible fortune of really having a Reno moment this semester thanks being a visiting artist for @artmfaunr giving an artist talk, meeting all of the graduates students, giving a riso workshop at @black_rock_press and being in two different shows up this season. It’s been so nice to be far enough away it’s special to be there, but close enough that by the end of the last trip @geimverur was just telling people I had moved there and people seemed to believe it.

There are some very exciting and special things happening in the art world of Reno right now, with ambitious grad students (@gwenolmos ) doing weird things like organizing U-Haul art fairs in small towns, intentional smaller shows all around town, and a really incredible show at the @nevadaart thru the summer.

Huge thanks to @austinjpratt @meg_pohlod @annanewman_art @kellychorpening @fuchs.aa & @miyauhannan for inviting me, hosting me, & facilitating my work, and all of the grads (aforementioned Gwen, @danbeprinting @kaimackinnon @bekahsully and those without Instagram) for opening up your studio, sharing your work, being generous and vulnerable. You all have literally taken my breath/voice away. Seriously I still can’t talk…
