I’m not the type to 3D print my own horn and toot it, but I’ve gotten pretty damn good at modelling and 3D printing. Many may not know this but it’s a service we offer.

I drew up and printed these boxes for a bunch of peeps associated with @containerbrewing. They will house 25 small bottles of delicious whiskey, in advent calendar fashion.

Thx for the biz @d.d.webster, killer idea.

H: Tell me about your books.

D: Memoirs of a Wedding DJ by Brent Faddies. It’s hilarious. They’re short stories from every end of the spectrum, whether it’s a good or a bad wedding. The names are fake but locations are real, so if it was someone’s wedding they’d know it was being referred to.

“More than Medals” was written by my wife. She was a volleyball player. It’s written as interviews with other athletes. There’s loads of athletes from tons of sports. It’s a journey of how you got into sport, why did you go further with it, to retirement, the whole cycle. When she retired she thought, my story’s different from everyone else’s I think, so let me find out.

H: So you founded this place?

D: Terry Brown and I founded it. I’ve known him since grade two, we grew up together in Ottawa. One of our formative jobs was at a bike shop when we were teenagers. Then we both found ourselves out west for different reasons.

Terry was an industrial designer, I landed in software sales. We had almost the same breaking point. Sick of being a cog in the wheel, didn’t see much value coming from it. So we thought, let’s open our own business, what kind of business. Bike shop was a thought because that was the formative thing, we’re both cyclists. But then, and you might laugh, we thought bike shops were a saturated market. So is beer, but five years ago when we started thinking about it, the numbers indicated that there was room. And I think there still is. You can still have a niche. As long as you have something that you can bring to the table, there’s still room.

We both had been homebrewers for about ten years, so it was an obvious second choice, and then it became our first choice. So it’s like, let’s do it, let’s build a brewery.

H: Can you comment on the prevalence of huge beards in the industry?

D: I think it just comes down to the fact that we can. In almost any other industry, you can’t. You’re a doctor, fuck no. Fireman? Nope. Cops, maybe? But probably not. Any corporate gig? Very few guys have beards of any significant size. Maybe a mustache if you’re lucky.

H: Do you know any brewers who can grow a beard, but shave it?

D: Off the top of my head, no.

I am currently processing (read: recovering) the last few weeks and trying not to FOMO hard over @seattlebeerweek especially the Farmhouse Fest @themasonrypizza 😩🍻🍾

As I do this, I was FINALLY able to get a hold of the beer @containerbrewing @daviddayco @d.d.webster and the whole crew kindly collaborated on. It was released just before I left and I didn’t get a chance to try it until just today!💫🍻

Made with Frozen Fresh Hops 🥶❄️⛄️ and Cryo Simcoe and Citra, this Cold IPA is ever so deserving of this fantastic sweater vest koozie to keep “Frostbite” well insulated! The quintessential fresh hop taste mixed with the brightness the blast of lupulin Cryo products bring make this beer refreshing, hoppy and reminiscent of late September Harvest, even though it was brewed in March.🌱❄️🌱
