HOBBLED The stunning SuSu @_su.su.su.su wearing my Mesh Pedal slash maxi dress from the Beauty Assassin collection. In 1908 The Wright Brothers were demonstrated their aeroplane in Le Mans, France and a lady called Edith Ogilby Berg was taken for a flight. She tied a rope around her skirt at the ankles to stop it blowing in the wind. After the flight she walked away from the plane with the rope still in place and was observed by French designer Paul Poiret who liked the way she moved due to the restricted movement. Hobble skirts became fashionable for a while with streetcars even being made with no steps so women could board them! There were even a couple of deaths due to the restrictive nature of them. So why would I do them again you ask? We’ll until the 50s, fashion was kind of compulsory. People did what they were told. They fitted in. I like the idea that someone would choose this style rather than feel obliged. It’s the same as corsets which are now a choice rather than a form of control or conformity. Also I could use the same silhouette but in a stretch fabric so you can move in them. ( it’s a good idea to hoist them up if you’re running for a bus though!) I have also never considered gender in anything I design so these were never about hobbling women, they were just a style of dress that anyone could choose to wear. #dane3001

The them,they ☠️are back in town . Out of the blue we’re shooting a documentary about one of the people I admire most in the world. The Rock and Roll Cobbler , Mr Terry de Havilland. Unfortunately these days and for the last few year of his life, the use of his his name had nothing to do with him. It is simply a ‘brand name’ drawing on Terry de Havilland’s creatively genius, used by people,(apparently LEGALY )to sell his designs. Morally though, ( in my opinion) they have absolutely NO RIGHT to trade in his name, producing designs he would have absolutely despised ! #dane3001
