ORION - ACT 1
—

To everyone who took the time to watch Orion — thank you.

My hope from the beginning was simple: to transport the viewer. To build a space quiet enough, strange enough, and human enough that you could lose yourself in it — even just for a moment.

That, to me, is the power of pure cinema.

With all of my work, I try to bring the experience to about 80% — and then leave space for the final 20% to be filled by the viewer. By you. Your memories, your emotions, your interpretation. That space is where the impact lives. It’s where the work becomes personal.

This is just Act One. There’s more to the story — and we’d love to finish the journey one day. But for now, this is where it lives. Where it pauses. Where it breathes.

Perhaps down the road, we’ll meet again.
Perhaps.

ORION - ACT 1

The final 10% is often where everything comes together — where the atmosphere settles, the energy sharpens, and a shot truly comes alive.

That’s where @danielmille.cg came in.

Daniel handled the FX work on Orion, and what he accomplished inside Unreal Engine was nothing short of incredible. Creating elegant, high-fidelity effects is already a challenge — but doing it in real time, under the constraints of a fully in-engine workflow? That takes serious skill, focus, and creativity.

His work added depth, texture, and movement to the world. The dust in the air, the light bloom, the sparks, the subtle energy that sits behind the frame — all of that was Daniel. His contributions elevated every moment and helped bring this project over the finish line.

Working with him was an absolute pleasure, and we couldn’t have done it without him.

ORION - ACT 1

Once the core designs were established, we began the long and detailed process of translating everything into Unreal Engine. This was where the real transformation happened — from still paintings to fully realized, living scenes.

Our small but exceptional team came together to rebuild the world inside the engine — piece by piece. Characters, environments, lighting, animation, cameras, rendering — every element was handled directly in Unreal with sharp focus and shared intent.

I want to take a moment to spotlight @zhoslenmakoev — my right hand throughout the entire production. He worked tirelessly to bring every asset into the engine and make sure it functioned, looked, and felt exactly as it should. This project wouldn’t have made it into Unreal without his precision, his patience, and his deep commitment to the vision.

More than just technical execution, this phase of the project was about trust, collaboration, and relentless iteration. And I couldn’t have asked for a better team to walk through it with.

Before the paintings could come to life in Unreal, they had to be built — piece by piece.

Every object, prop, vessel, and character you see in Orion was first sculpted, textured, lit, and shaded using a hybrid workflow I developed over time. Pulling from years of experience across tools like ZBrush, Cinema 4D, 3DCoat, and Photoshop, I created each element with intention — designing them as if they already existed in the world I was imagining.

This wasn’t kitbash or placeholder work. Everything was crafted from the ground up to feel real, designed to carry weight and story.

Once the pipeline was dialed, I began replicating and evolving it — advancing the project forward piece by piece, shot by shot. When the time came to bring everything into Unreal Engine, the foundation had already been laid.

This hybrid approach became the engine behind Orion. A system built on both traditional fundamentals and new real-time possibilities.

Every frame of Orion is the result of a small but incredibly dedicated team giving everything they had.

We weren’t a large crew — just a handful of artists, each wearing multiple hats, each fully committed to pushing the vision forward. The paintings acted as our guide. They carried the tone, the language, the emotional blueprint — and we worked tirelessly to translate them into something living, cinematic, and real-time inside Unreal Engine.

None of us had done this exact thing before. But everyone leaned in. Everyone contributed more than their role. Everyone found a way to elevate the material.

What you see here is a snapshot of that transformation — from the early artwork to the final scene. A reminder that great things can come from focused collaboration, trust, and a shared belief in the work.

To the team — thank you for everything.

It’s one thing to have a vision — it’s another to evolve it.

These two frames — one from the original painting, the other from the final version — show just how far the project grew along the way.

I started Orion using the tools I knew: Cinema 4D, ZBrush, 3DCoat, Photoshop. That’s where I felt most fluent. But moving everything into Unreal Engine meant stepping into an entirely new toolset and real-time workflow — something I wasn’t familiar with at the start.

What I quickly learned was this: you hold onto the goal, but you have to let the process breathe. Let it change. Let it teach you.

The transition from concept to final was never about perfection — it was about evolution. Letting go of old habits. Being open to better ideas. Trusting the team. And finding beauty in what unfolds when you do.

These two frames are a reminder to me that we all grew during this project. The end result didn’t just match the original vision — it elevated it.

Thank you to everyone who’s taken the time to experience Orion, and for all the kind, thoughtful words you’ve shared. It means more than I can say.

I wanted to share a few of my personal favorite frames from the film — moments that reflect the tone and feeling I set out to capture from the very beginning.

Translating these images from my mind — and from the original paintings — into something cinematic and alive was one of the hardest parts of the process. Working with new technologies like Unreal, Lumen, and Metahumans was powerful but challenging, especially when the goal was never just technical fidelity, but emotional truth.

I wanted to match the feeling I get when watching the films that shaped me — those quiet, powerful frames that linger. That was the target. That was the test.

More soon.

An original cinematic experience set in a mythic world shaped by memory, sacrifice, and silence. Orion is a visual poem that invites interpretation and rewards reflection.

After months of long nights, deep focus, and the tireless work of a small and dedicated team, we are proud to share ORION — a fully original project built entirely in Unreal Engine.

From animation to lighting, everything was translated and crafted in real time using Lumen, Metahumans, and the latest virtual tools. We did our best to push the limits of what’s possible inside the engine — not just technically, but emotionally.

This film wouldn’t exist without the incredible artists who gave their full effort to every frame. Thank you to everyone who helped bring this vision to life.

And thank you to you — the audience — for taking the time to watch.
