Feeling so grateful to have spent two weeks in Salzburg at the Summer Academy @summeracademy.at, developing my printmaking practice through etching and drawing, with Rossen @rossendaskalov and Daniela’s @daniela.kasperer dedicated teaching and passion for the medium.

Going to school in Hohensalzburg Fortress and learning alongside artists from around the world was an incredibly inspiring experience. I’ve come away with new ideas, skills and plenty to take back to the studio.

I’ll be sharing the etchings I made and some studio work from the course over the coming days.

I’ll definitely be back!

Herzlichen Glückwunsch an die Preisträgerinnen des diesjährigen Kunstpreises🏆💐:

🌷Anna* Maria Ernst, Elena Lengauer, Lejla Mahmutovic & Daniela Kasperer 🏅

Glückwunsch an alle Beteiligten!🥳

ABC (Hungarian for Beginners), 2025
Photographs, pages from a Hungarian–German dictionary, posca pens, tape

Currently, 'ABC (Hungarian for Beginners), 2025' is on display at the 16th Jahresausstellung, curated by Martina Greil, @martinagreil at the Stadtgalerie Salzburg, @stadtgalerie_salzburg as the residency was funded by the City of Salzburg.

During my residency at @budapestgaleria in Budapest, I could not fail to notice the state of the city's streets: Cracks, holes and missing stones. I started planting flowers in the holes, creating 'Soft Disruptions': little stumbling stones made of plants in the middle of our tarred streets. I used them to disrupt the everyday, creating unexpected encounters. While these temporary sculptures were in place, I observed people stepping over them, taking care to avoid them, dancing around them, picking them up, taking pictures, and also passing by without noticing them.

Also during my residency, Judith from @massolitbooksbudapest bookshop gave me among other books a Hungarian–German dictionary. For me, a German-speaking artist doing his first residency in Budapest, Hungary, this dictionary was quite symbolic of the experience. It inspired my work, ABC (Hungarian for Beginners, 2025), and is also the physical basis of it. At the end of my residency, I exhibited in the gallery space of the Massolit bookshop. The presentation of photographs of people's reactions to the ‘Soft Disruptions, 2025’ on book pages was a site-specific installation.

Now that I’ve been back for a month I’m ready to share about the incredible etching workshop I took in Salzburg, Austria at @summeracademy.at with a fellowship from the Austrian American Foundation! Fellow fellow Emily @witchnipple and I stayed at Schloss Arenberg, literally waking up to the Sound of Music aka to children singing in the ballrooms downstairs each morning. We crossed a bridge with mountain views, passed a cathedral, and climbed to Festung Hohensalzburg—a stone fortress where our classroom overlooked the whole city.

Most days were spent in the printshop, learning so much from our teacher, Rossen @rossendaskalov —passionate, experimental, and endlessly encouraging—as I filled my desk with new prints. Outside of class, there were swims in a 12th-century canal, mountain hikes, evening walks through the city, and bright sun every day. I made new friends, and it was a truly perfect experience. I also went on the Sound of Music Bike Tour, which was outlined in a journal entry I found from my 10 year old self about how I MUST one day go to Austria lol check
