Happy 6 year anniversary to the love of my life and the artist with whom I just did the most identity-affirming performance of my career. Babe, Terra Bubo changed us to our core. This is for us, for the countless souls who helped us along the way with this creation, and for my Filipino mentor @kidlat_naman who left the planet too soon. The process of delving into our origins, pathways and ancestries for Terra Bubo is a life-long journey - let's keep moving together. I love you.

This oldie popped up in my memories this morning. Feels like a lifetime ago and yesterday at the same time. @daytonballet 2010-2011 season. Grateful for these humans and that I still have the opportunity to spend everyday in the dance studio.

SATURDAY NIGHT: It's light bulbs and couches, coffee tables and deconstructed pianos, piles of chalk and books. It's vivid splashes of light and projection and poetry scribbled on the walls. And improvisational postmodern-jazz dance performances by The Pillow Project with live jazzed music throughout the night!

- Doors open 8p-11p | $15 at the door -

Hosted by Pearlann Porter with different musical guests each month, it's modern speakeasy-magic and spontaneous art in our 4,000 sq/ft warehouse-gallery loft-space... And it’s one of Pittsburgh's best kept secrets!

*SECOND SATURDAYS is proudly a sober event and serve several house infused waters, specialty iced coffees and other seasonal drinks and refreshments for donation at The Space Bar.

AUG 4 & 5: The Pillow Project’s summer performance platform at The Space Upstairs for both established movement artists of the company and new artists to emerge onto the Pittsburgh dance scene as choreographers in their own right.

THE SWITCH -- an evening-length showcase presenting 10 new works from 12 of the company's creators -- will feature a collection of short works, multimedia projection experimentations, and conceptual ideas. The evening will be presented in the comfortable and laid-back atmosphere of The Space Upstairs, and will be followed by a light mixer with the choreographers after the performances.

"We wanted a platform to elevate the creative voices of the artists working with The Pillow Project right now," says Porter. "The [Pillow Project] company has always been about pushing boundaries in creativity and performance, and I feel its important to not only give opportunities and support for new artists to take risks, but to introduce them to the local dance community that they are choosing to invest in. I remember how hard it was to get started as a young choreographer, and Pittsburgh has been so good to me over the years — I want to keep paying it forward to the next generation!"

THE SWITCH is named after a corner ceiling light up at The Space Upstairs (affectionately called "The Switch"). Back in 2010, it was under that very light where The Pillow Project's unique method of improvisational postmodern-jazz was born, and where so many dancers ever since have had their big moment of becoming something completely new before everyone's eyes. To this day, that very light still hangs in the corner of The Space Upstairs, and it seemed fitting that an evening of artists presenting themselves as something new should be named after this iconic light.

THIS SUNDAY at 6pm: Our monthly event at The Space Upstairs for sharing writings and writing processes, with writers invited to read their work and workshop their shared submissions.

THE POETRY ATELIER is an open and inclusive experience that offers a quality climate of a respectful forum for the reading and assessment of written work, with practical discussions on improving craft, and the opportunity for hearing personal works read aloud by fresh voices.

Bring your work on your phone, a link online, or several written copies to share and write on. Or simply bring your ears and your voice to share your thoughts!
