The Continuous Learning Leader
A continuous learning leader is someone who prioritizes ongoing personal and professional development. They have a growth mindset, actively seeking out new knowledge and skills to adapt and evolve in their leadership role. They embrace challenges, view failures as learning opportunities, and actively seek feedback to improve. They have a thirst for knowledge, staying informed about industry trends and best practices. A continuous learning leader encourages a culture of growth within their organization, promoting lifelong learning and providing resources for their team’s development. This commitment to continuous learning enables them to stay relevant, make better decisions, and drive success. #leadershipdevelopment #army #military #rangers specialoperations tftw leader leadbyexample mentor wintomorrow rltw

Special Patrol Insertion/Extraction or SPIE is a method of Air Assault used to insert or extract a small element out of an area where it is not feasible to land a helicopter.

A strong rope with attachment rings hangs down from a hovering helicopter. Soldiers on the ground wear special harnesses and clip themselves directly to the rope. The helicopter rises straight up until the team clears trees or rocks, then egresses the area.

This technique is demonstrated by a designated group of Ranger Instructors at every Ranger School graduation (weather permitting) during Rangers In Action.

Big congratulations to yet another @tamu.ruddersrangers alumni and former Rudder’s Company CO, 2LT Harrison Doyle.

The Aggs showed out as usual to support one of their own. So proud of these young men who never seem to take the easy way out of anything. Time and time again they raise their hands when called upon, and accept the challenge given.

Today another Ranger joins the long and storied tradition.

RLTW!

Blessed.

That’s the first word that comes to mind when I think about my 17 years in this profession. I get to get up everyday and do what I was put here for.

At this point in the game, I certainly don’t do this for fortune, fame, or because it’s easy. Every year that goes by I’m reminded that this profession has a cost associated with it. Be it physical, mental, time taken from family and friends, or the loss of personal leisure…it costs.

So why am I blessed? I’ve been blessed with the ability to teach, coach, and mentor another generation. I’ve been blessed to learn from some of the greatest leaders our country has. I’ve been blessed with some incredible relationships with many peers, superiors, and subordinates alike. I’ve been blessed by the many lives this platform has allowed me to impact.

I absolutely love hearing of your triumphs whether in person or through the many calls and messages I have received. They mean the world to me.

I hope that Ranger U continues to make an impact on those out there who need it…I can’t wait to see you win.

Fun fact: 100% of people who don’t attend Ranger School don’t have a Ranger Tab.

Don’t self sabotage before you’ve even tried. The staggering number of service members who make excuses as to why Ranger School isn’t for them is unacceptable…don’t cast your lot in with them. This school will teach you things that you literally cannot get from anywhere else short of real world combat. It will reveal your weaknesses, your poor habits, and your lack of knowledge and give the opportunity to fix it. It’s the best life insurance policy you can give yourself and your formation in the profession of arms.

So…Why not you?

Authentic leaders don’t just set goals—they own the conversation around them.

Effective leadership starts with showing up as yourself. When you’re authentic, people trust your intent. Pair that with clear, consistent communication and you create the conditions for real progress:

• Goal setting becomes shared, not imposed. You explain the “why,” invite input, and align the team around outcomes that matter.

• Accountability feels fair, not punitive. You model ownership, give honest feedback early, and celebrate course-corrections as much as wins.

The result? Teams that move with clarity and commitment instead of confusion and quiet resistance.

Leaders who hide behind titles or vague directives rarely get the best from people.

Those who communicate openly, stay true to their values, and hold themselves to the same standards they expect of others build cultures that deliver.

What’s one way you keep goal-setting and accountability authentic on your team?

”…dedicated to all Rangers past, present and future.”

Those words are carved into the wall behind these two Rangers. That’s the whole mission in one line.

Past — the names in the granite. Present — the ones standing here. Future — the ones who haven’t started the journey yet.

One Memorial holds all three.
