Last night we performed at Severance Music Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
We played two sets, with our dear friend, Ghana-born master djembe player Weedie Braimah, joining us during the second set. For the final number, trumpeter Dominick Farinacci joined Sherman Irby for “Big Fat Alice’s Blues.”

Weedie will join us again on October 23 and 24 for “From Cuba to the Crescent City,” a program exploring the musical connections between Africa, Cuba, and New Orleans, with special guests Pedrito Martinez and Shenel Johns.

After the concert, we spent some time backstage with friends and donors. I was also honored to receive a Resolution of Congratulations from the City of Cleveland.

Yesterday, October 14, we played the first of three concerts at the Wilson Theater at Vogel Hall, part of the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
As always, our dear friend and longtime supporter Dr. Stu Berger welcomed us to Milwaukee with some delicious donuts.

The young musicians of the Beloit Memorial High School Jazz Orchestra opened the evening’s concert. Dan Block also joined us in Milwaukee, filling in for Chris Lewis for the remainder of the tour. It’s good to have Dan with us.
After the show, Stu organized a small party for the band at our hotel. Thank you, Stu, for always taking such good care of us.

Today we have two more concerts at the Wilson Theater, a student concert this morning and our final Milwaukee concert this evening.

Last night we performed at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center in Brookings, South Dakota.

We played two sets, with music that included “The Mooche,” “Parker’s Mood,” “Four in One,” “Tamakoce Te’hila” from the “Wave the Wheat Suite,” and Chris Crenshaw’s “How Many Tackles Can One Man Break?”

The second set included “The Son” from my “Abyssinian Mass,” “Lemurianos,” “Peace,” “Conglomerate” from “The Fifties,” and “Big Fat Alice’s Blues.”

This morning we left Brookings for Minneapolis, where we’ll perform tomorrow evening, October 13, at Orchestra Hall.

Yesterday, October 10, we joined the Cornhusker Marching Band at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska, for the halftime show of the Nebraska–Indiana football game, before a crowd of 90,000.

Chris Crenshaw and Scott Boerma wrote the halftime show together, with a program that included “Feelin’ Good,” “Sing, Sing, Sing,” “Have Thine Own Way,” and “Oh, When the Saints Go Marching In.”

It was a great experience for all of us to perform on the football field with the 300 members of the Cornhusker Marching Band.

After the show, some of our musicians stayed on the sidelines to watch the second half of the game and had a great time.

Thank you to the Cornhusker Marching Band and everyone at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for having us.
