Every year through @stichtingsnakepatrolsuriname we receive hundreds of calls about snakes on properties in the city of Paramaribo.

One of the most common call outs especially in rainy season is for anacondas!

Fortunately thanks to an amazing team of volunteers these magnificent snakes can be safely captured and relocated into more suitable areas further away from people!

In urban areas it’s not uncommon to find even very large anacondas here in Suriname!🐍

Some individuals such as this one can become ‘problem’ individuals as they grow larger developing a habit of repeatedly predating upon pet dogs!

Fortunately, through the amazing work of @stichtingsnakepatrolsuriname we can relocate these incredible animals into suitable habitat out of conflict areas with abundant natural prey!

This beautiful female measured close to 5m in length and was captured by snake patrol members @danny.stark91 @_.sooner_or_gavin._

𝗔 𝗥𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗸𝘆 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿!
We had the incredible luck of spotting a silky anteater while exploring Peperpot Nature Park during our Hiking Tour with wildlife guide Danny Stark! They are usually tough to find, but there it was! Known as the smallest anteater species, this nocturnal critter spends its nights scurrying through the trees, using its long, sticky tongue to scoop up ants, termites and even bees! And though it looks cute and harmless, those tiny paws hide some pretty sharp claws, perfect for both climbing and defending itself if needed!

Watching this tiny acrobat move with such ease through the branches was an unforgettable moment. It reminds us of the incredible diversity that thrives in Suriname’s lush landscapes.

Join our Peperpot hiking or kayaking tour when you have the chance. There is so much wildlife to see in this Park, it is a must do when you are in Suriname!

Happy World Snake day! 🐍

About a third of adults are afraid of snakes

Snakes are therefore one of the most feared animals in the world.

Today is world snakes day

World Snake Day is celebrated annually on July 16 to raise awareness about snakes and promote their preservation. Snakes play a crucial role in ecosystems as predators, controlling rodent populations and maintaining ecological balance. However, they are often faced with threats such as loss of habitat, persecution for fear or misunderstanding, and illegal trafficking.

It is therefore important to at least be aware of these unrated animals. Snakes can be dangerous yes, but a large part is not. And if you treat them with respect, you can also admire them. It’s a huge honor to share this with people, seeing someone shine after overwining his or her fear is magical!

Clear waterfalls are a breathtaking natural phenomenon found in different parts of the world, including the Amazon region. These special places are crucial for humans and animals. Waterfalls are a source of life for various animals and plants.

That’s why I always find these places super special to come across. By only hearing running water nearby i already get completely excited! Do you have that too?
