“I felt like a wide channel for truth.”

A student of ours was recently cross-examined at the trial of three activists arrested while protesting at an ICE detention center. Her attorney said it was like a master class.

Afterward, she wrote:

“I felt for my back and felt my width in the witness chair. I two-stepped and held the temple bowl in the restroom on a break. I felt like a wide channel for truth. I can feel how much more can move through me now.”

This is what the practice is for. Not just quiet mornings — but the witness chair. The moment someone tries to rattle you and your body knows what to do.

She practiced and practiced and practiced. And when the moment came, she was ready. ✨

If this calls to you, I have two retreats coming up this year:

🌿 Embodied Leadership — July 16–19, Western Mass (link in bio)
🌿 Embodied Leadership for Teachers — Oct 9–12, Bay Area (link in bio)

Both are sliding scale. No prior experience needed. Everyone is welcome.

Speaking is Dara Silverman @darasilver who introduced herself as living in Beacon and is a Jew. Dara spoke of this conversation coming down to “either or” and she felt it important to note it was a “disproportionate or.” She said she has had a good conversation with Councilperson Molly Rhodes of her Ward, and tells the council people that those who knocked on doors for them, and made phone calls for them, are now calling on them to speak for us to pass a ceasefire resolution. Dara said that when we speak of the lights being too bright at Healy Auto (this was in reference to Councilperson Pam Wetherbee’s request to have the City ask the auto dealer who has moved out of their property to turn the lights off at night), that Palestine doesn’t have electricity because it was shut off by Israel. Dara said that when we talk about upgrading the water system, that Palestine doesn’t have a water system because it’s been bombed by Israel. As well as hospitals and other institutions. She implored for the council to pass a ceasefire resolution and not a statement.

I am really, really, really grateful for the many community spaces that have been offered virtually and in-person over the past 35 days since Hamas’ devastating attack on Israel and Israel’s subsequent *on-going* horrific ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

I am really, really, really grateful for the space holders, the organizers, the educators, the speakers, the fierce leaders, and the friends, family, acquaintances and strangers showing up together in these times.

I’m especially grateful for and sending love to the many people creating, facilitating, and participating in these spaces who are very deeply, personally, directly, and ancestrally impacted by the many traumas currently taking place.

All of this is hard work. All of this is heart work. All of this IS the work. This is collective resistance. This is solidarity in the struggle. This is sowing seeds of liberation.

It is exhausting. It is tiring. It is inspiring.
It is hopeful. It is hope-filled. It is hard.
It is action. It is anger. It is rage.
It is grief. It is embodied. It is pain.

No people(s) should have to experience the man-made horrors currently taking place in Palestine, in Congo, in Sudan, in Tigray/Ethiopia, in Yemen, in Ukraine, and in so many other places around the world.

I am grateful for the individuals and organizations (whose flyers are featured in the slides), who show us that there are other ways. to be. to grieve. to resist. to persist. to act. to fight. to love.

🎥✨ Journey of Learning and Unlearning ✨📚

Starting my journey wasn't easy, but discovered a powerful approach to
growth and understanding. Immersing myself in deep learning became my
key to progress. 🌟

For those struggling with processing or retention, like me, I embraced every opportunity. Books, trainings, and collective spaces became my allies in this transformative process. Learning together, rather than in isolation, unlocked
new perspectives. 🌍

Understanding the construct of race and the intricacies of oppressive systems
was vital. I delved into the depths of my own internalized biases, realizing how
they influenced my thoughts, actions, and worldview. It was a journey of
uncovering patterns and behaviors ingrained through socialization. 🌈

Now, I want to pass on the knowledge and guidance that has shaped my
journey. Here are a few phenomenal resources that will ignite your path
towards racial equity.

LINKS will be on my story!

Discover more resources in my highlights and find links to books and
podcasts that will enrich your journey.📖✨

Solidarity > Charity: Mutual Aid Beacon

One of the encouraging things to come out of COVID is the rise of mutual aid networks around the country, including one in #BeaconNY that started right as the pandemic hit the #HudsonValley.

Essentially mutual aid groups are matchmakers, connecting those with needs to those with something to offer.

Beacon’s group was spearheaded by longtime BEAHIVE member Dara Silverman, who recruited a handful of others to help organize (including other BEAHIVE members).

Since its spring launch, the group’s 1,200-plus volunteers have:

* Distributed 7,200+ bags of groceries to area families.
* Spent 1,000+ hours on the phone with home-bound seniors.
* Delivered 100+ prescriptions from pharmacies.
* Offered 7 sessions of free after-school programming to children.
* Enabled a free, public Wi-Fi spot at Memorial Park (with two more in the works).

@mutualaidbeaconny is always looking for volunteers — and money is always welcome.
