Some heroes wear capes.

Some wear dirty suits.

I had already started reading Darin Kinder’s Bury Me in a Dirty Suit before Asha and I attended the Old Capital Multifamily Conference.

So when Darin walked onto that stage and told his story, it hit differently.

I knew what he had lived through on 9/11. I knew some of the choices he had made when everything around him was chaos. Hearing those words directly from him, and then having the opportunity to meet him afterward, made his story stay with both of us forever.

The book has made me look back at my own journey, the choices, people, sacrifices, and moments that shaped me, and, more importantly, look ahead. How do I want to live the years still in front of me? What really matters?

Three principles from Darin keep coming back to me:

Mission first.
People always.
Never alone.

Simple words. Powerful way to live.

Some books you finish and put back on the shelf.

Some change the way you look backward and the way you move forward.

I’m still reading this one. But I already know it’s one I won’t forget.

"There's at least three different times where the Lord spared me. He just spared me, and I know it. And that's why I live the life that I live now because I know that he saved me for a reason, for a purpose, and I want to keep moving towards that purpose and executing it." —Darin Kinder

As our nation reflects this year—the 25th anniversary of 9/11—we released a commemorative episode of The GOA Speakers Podcast. Our special guest not only survived the attacks, but now uses his experiences as an inspiration to fully engage in the life the Lord has given him.

What kind of person runs toward the towers on 9/11?

Meet this year's keynote speaker, Darin Kinder.

On September 11, 2001, Darin was a U.S. Secret Service Special Agent on the ground in New York City when the World Trade Center was attacked, an experience that earned him the Secret Service Medal of Valor and forever shaped his faith and his purpose.

Over 25 years of service, he protected five U.S. presidents and world leaders across 43 countries. Today he's a speaker and the author of Bury Me in a Dirty Suit, sharing an unforgettable message of courage, resilience, and purpose.

Sometimes all we have to do is take the next step and answer the call God has placed on our lives.

God promises, “Fear not, for I am with you.”

Just a few reminders from today’s National First Responder Conference, hosted by Mission First Alliance in Chattanooga, Tennessee. What an inspiring day to be reminded that we can live on mission right where God has placed us—even in the workplace.

I left feeling so encouraged and incredibly blessed to be a first responder wife.

And if you haven’t heard Darin Kinder’s story of surviving 9/11, you need to. He is such a gifted speaker, and I can’t wait to read his book. What an honor to hear his story today. @darinkinder @missionfirstalliance

Sometimes the most powerful stories are the ones we carry in silence the longest.

Darin Kinder was a Secret Service agent stationed at the World Trade Center on 9/11 — and it took him a decade to finally speak. In this episode, he shares how telling his story became the path to healing, and what biblical courage looks like when everything around you is falling apart.

“The [New York firefighters] knew the threat. They knew the cost. And those men and women went up anyway.” @darinkinder was a Secret Service agent inside the World Trade Center on 9/11. He shares how he carried a survivor down ten flights of stairs, ran through a collapsing tower’s debris cloud to guide strangers to safety, and what that day taught him about walking toward danger instead of away from it.
