Our guest this week is @kelin.online Kelin Carolyn Zhang! Kelin is an independent designer, educator, and creative technologist working at the intersection of software, AI, and physical objects. Kelin runs @tenderworld_ , a post-AGI creative studio (the studio behind Poetry Camera and Moonstone Lamps)

What is STUDIO WORKS? It’s an experimental artist incubator we’re doing at TIAT. Together with @darkforestos and @metalabel__ , we’re bringing together a cohort (including you?) to ask: can we build practices around making things we want?

In the experiment, we’re developing an artifact rooted in our individual creative practices, moving through desire, concepting, prototyping, production, distribution, and sales while learning from artist-led studios and building alongside one another. At the end, we’ll release what we made together.

⛓️‍💥 INSTAGRAM IS NOT AN ARCHIVE. ⛓️‍💥

For years I let this app hold my work. Somewhere along the way I stopped being able to feel my own digital body. Posts sink, get cropped, compressed, re-ranked, and every version of me ends up scattered across a feed that was never built to embody my work, my purpose.

So I finally did the thing I’d been avoiding since January: I built my own forever-place. aroman.live is live.

BUT it was painstaking. Building it meant procrastinating beautifully, abandoning templates, sweating through a Dalston heatwave, and finally realising that a polymath isn’t everywhere all at once. A polymath is everywhere in one place.

What finally worked for me:
→ one home for everything
→ a small circle that sees new work first
→ the feed as a doorway, not a vault

Huge thanks to @aixdesign. Researching BRONCODE with them and the National Library of the Netherlands completely changed how I think about archives, AI, and who gets to assemble the different versions of us.

And to my people inside @darkforestos you taught me that 20 net-friends who actually engage beat thousands scrolling past. If you want in, the door’s open.

I’ve been writing Popular for 3 years. 162 letters. and most of them were buried under “see all” where nobody (including me) could find them
