Not every bathroom needs a complete redesign to feel like it was made just for you.

In this Hinsdale home, the original bathtub was in a similar spot, but the location of the faucet made the space feel disjointed. By relocating the plumbing around the tub and swapping a bulky built-in for a sleek stand alone tub, the flow of this primary bathroom completely changed.

A lot of people don’t know this about me-but I don’t drink. However… I LOVE a good bar 🥂

There’s something about having a space that’s not only beautiful, but invites connection.

A spot to slow down, pour another iced coffee into a wine glass, and just be for a bit.

This one- tucked into the lower level of our Colorado Mountain Home- gets me every time.

The stone. The mood. The glow.

I can just picture this sweet family gathered here, laughing, unwinding, enjoying each other ❤️

Cheers to that!

Every design choice was intentional. We selected patinated materials, natural stones/terracotta, textured glass and warm woods—adding character and soul to every room, including this bar.

Carte Blanche—phrase that means “blank card”—is the type of thing designers either dream about or dread. For Lauren Svenstrup of @studiosven, it’s a mix of both. “I tend to do my best work with some level of constraint,” she tells us. “I need something to push against—structure, function, even friction. Constraints create clarity. They give me a problem to solve.”

Whether a homeowner provides constraints or not, Lauren always uncovers the underlying parameters. “Clients are bringing a way of living, a set of habits, preferences, and priorities,” she notes, “whether they’ve articulated them or not. That’s where the real work begins.”

For one couple relocating from Missouri to Chicago, uncovering those unspoken parameters became the foundation of the project. They’d owned a business and lived in a traditional single-family home, but a craving for reinvention—and a love of travel—landed them in a high-rise condo and ushered in an entirely new way of living.

See the story in the summer issue.

There’s a certain heaviness in the air right now. The holidays often carry a mix of emotions, but this year especially, it feels like many of us are holding a lot. On top of that, the news feels relentless, and it seems like everyone is just trying to make it to the end of the week before we can hibernate for a bit with our families.

I’ve found myself wanting to step back from social media more than usual, my attempt to quiet the noise. That tension of trying to slow down, but life moving at the speed of light. We’re all in a mad dash to get everything done by Friday before the inevitable “let’s circle back in the new year.”

Anyway, these are just my thoughts this Tuesday morning. If things feel heavy for you too, I just want you to know I see you. I’m right here with you.

INTENTIONAL DESIGN | A serene space designed for creativity and calm. Every tone and detail chosen with intention to create quiet beauty and a clear foundation for what’s next. The most thoughtful design leans into restraint, invites stillness and leaves space for new possibilities to emerge. My favorite detail, the refined @armacmartin hardware featured here in my favorite, go to metal finish.

There's something magical about an unexpected vignette that adds personality to a space, and a telephone nook is an especially charming vintage inspired detail. While a telephone is no longer a staple in most homes, collected objects and thoughtful placement bring presence to this little nook. The elegant composition adds a touch of warmth to a space defined by clean lines and bold artwork.

White walls are not a personality flaw, they’re just a starting point. 🤍

The warmth comes from texture, from layering, from the things you bring into a space that make it feel like yours. A room can be bright and quiet and still feel like the coziest place you’ve ever been.

Take this as your proof. ✨

At the center of the home, the dining room connects it all.
Flanked by the kitchen and living room, the space is open, calm, and quietly anchored by material and light. Views extend outward, while the interior palette keeps the experience grounded and warm.
Designed to feel effortless, whether in use or simply passing through.

Homes like this begin with how you want to live. We’d love to hear your vision.
