Wednesday October 14th! Chordless quartet with the amazing Dave Ballou and some of the finest young rhythm section players around, Kevin Beardley on bass and Jake Askarinam on drums. Dave and I have been deepening our rapport, and I’m excited to bring some new musicians into the fold of our improvisational synergy.

No doubt, this year’s highlight was performing weekly from January through September at Bluebird. The jam session kicked my ass on a regular basis, and Baltimore Jazz Underground lifted my spirits more times than I can count. We have the great guitarist Charlie Ballantine to thank for both of these wonderful contributions. I am very grateful.

Despite my passion for the series and what it represents for the future of creative music programming in approachable public spaces, I’ve had to scale back to monthly performance there while I work to strike some sort of balance. This is my first of these monthly forays.

Looking for a place to enjoy live music during the week? 🎷🍸

Apparently, weekends are overrated because @thebluebirdbaltimore has something going on almost every night. 👀

🎶 Monday — Django Jazz Jam
🪕 Tuesday — Bluegrass / Old Time Jam
🎷 Wednesday + Thursday — Baltimore Jazz Underground

Catch it downstairs in the bar area from 8–11 PM good cocktails, live music, and an excuse to stay out way later than you planned on a weekday . 😂

📍 The Bluebird Cocktail Room | Hampden, Baltimore
Save this for your next midweek night out. ✨

"Take Five" by Paul Desmond—a major hit for the Dave Brubeck Quartet in 1960—has been recorded countless times. This version is unique, with Lisa Rich's unpredictable scat singing and Copland's solo taking the classic into unexpected territory. This famous song is featured on Ms. Rich's recent album, "I Still Rise"
