“Leggere è l’unica dipendenza che non nuoce, ed è la migliore cura per l’anima”
—Dumitru Novac

Non riesco a immaginare la mia vita senza un libro tra le mani.

Che cosa stai leggendo in questi giorni?

Una libreria alla fine del corridoio. Un punto di svolta, ma anche un arrivo. Il traguardo del lettore. Gli scaffali chiari spiccano nella tappezzeria scura, regalando colore e creatività ♡︎

I’m not the “cobbler’s son” this week. We “garnered a placement” (that’s publicist speak) on our London apartment. All the work was done by @stephengordonhenderson and @davidbentheim. I’m just here to bask in the glory.

We have a guest staying with us from London, so James and I spent yesterday afternoon at Teotihuacan. (This ancient Mesoamerican site a few miles out of town is a must-see pilgrimage for any first time visitor to Mexico City.) Because we hadn’t been in many years, however, James and I were newly astonished by these awesome pyramids, thought to have been constructed in 200 CE. Here’s an amazingly mysterious fact, for which scholars have no clear explanation: the architectural “footprint” of the Pyramid of the Sun — the larger of the two at Teotihuacan— is exactly the same size as the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt. Strange, huh?

James and I were invited tonight by our friend David Bentheim to see “Don Giovanni,” the first performance of the 2023 season at Glyndebourne. (@davidbentheim helped us decorate our London apartment and he did a smashing job.) Mozart’s music has figured largely in the repertoire since this internationally renowned opera festival began in 1934 on the grounds of an Elizabethan manor house in East Sussex. Before the overture begins inside the theatre, if the weather cooperates as it did today, women in fancy dresses and men wearing tuxedos stroll through the gardens, and arrange quite lavish picnics on the ha-ha lawn. If you don’t know what a ha-ha is, Glyndebourne is an excellent place to learn.
