ON THE MARCH | NO. 4

What Matters:

Gen Z is driving theatrical and streaming success. PostTrak data shows audiences under 35 account for more than 70% of opening-weekend crowds for original horror and thrillers. They discover stories through social media, YouTube, and gaming, then bring their friends to theaters.

Fandom isn’t passive. It’s built early, spans generations, and lasts a lifetime.

At HVG, we believe that when communities connect with stories early, they don’t just watch. They champion them.

What’s Moving:

Inside the Writers’ Room: Writers and producers Chad & Carey Hayes (The Conjuring) hosted a Producers365 masterclass on screenwriting, what makes a great script, and how their First-Look program connects promising projects with experienced producers.

Behind The Singers: Hollywood Ventures Group hosted Oscar-winning producer David Breschel and fellow producer Sam Rosati for a discussion on independent filmmaking and producing.

Night at the Movies: Producers365 member Ahmet Zappa, Emmy-nominated producer, bestselling author, and CEO of I LIKE YOU, invited us to Fresh Meat, a horror film festival presented by Dead Meat and Hades Films. The one-night-only theatrical event brought together emerging horror filmmakers and audiences from around the world, celebrating bold storytelling while giving rising talent a platform and a share in the anthology’s success.

Turn inspiration into action,

Glenn Gainor

It's big brother Oscar and evil little brother Cthulhu posing together in this family portrait at golden hour from the producer of @thesingersfilm @davidbreschel. After "The Singers" won our Grand Prize Short Film award in 2025, and then went on to win in a tie for the live action short film Oscar @theacademy with another @filmquest 2025 winner (Best Foreign short) "Two People Exchanging Saliva," we asked them if they could send us a photo of the two golden trophies posed together, and boy did they deliver! One last massive congrats to both "The Singers" and "Two People Exchanging Saliva" on their history making wins and for elevating genre to even greater heights!
