“I don’t design cars, I design anything that makes you like them.” ”I don’t design cars, I design anything that makes you like them.“ You might not immediately recognize the name Davide Virdis, but scroll through his feed and you’ve undoubtedly bookmarked a few of his visionary builds. Hailing from Genoa, Italy, the automotive media and livery designer has penned bespoke liveries for the likes of NISMO and BMW M, masterfully weaving familiar cultural icons—from In-N-Out Burger and Oakley to SEGA—into his aesthetic, while crafting drift and motorsport-infused visuals for platforms like Classic Driver and Type 7. Yet what truly captures imaginations are his speculative renders of iconic silhouettes that never existed: a Lancia Delta Integrale Station Wagon, a Mazda MX-5 Eunos Coupé, a Ford Sierra RS Estate, and even a NASCAR-inspired BMW E36. Exploring these alternate-reality ”What Ifs,“ Davide doesn‘t just push the boundaries of automotive art—he breathes life into these digital daydreams, pulling enthusiasts right back into the golden era of 80s and 90s motorsport culture. If you could bring one of Davide Virdis’ creations into reality, would you build an unproduced silhouette, or commission one of his bespoke liveries? The B8 doesn’t just sound incredible. The Livery is a tribute to contemporary art and high-performance engineering. Inspired by the geometry of motion and the iconic colors of the Yellowbird, the livery brings both worlds together. For the design, OPTIMA brought together @aloisaruf and @davidevirdisss. The result speaks for itself. Learn more about the story via the link in Bio.

Guided a 997 through the Engadine and a Giulia Quadrifoglio through Italy, all thanks to the generosity of the best mates you could ever hope for. As Sundays go, even this one doesn’t really make sense.

1964 Mini Cooper "Popeye" Racing Special: This striking digital concept visualization reimagines the classic Mini Cooper as an aggressive, heavily modified touring car legend. Finished in a dramatic red and white race livery, this fictional build channels the raw aesthetic of vintage motorsport culture, complete with bold period-correct sponsor graphics like Elf, Advan, and Winning Fighting Sports World emblazoned across its flanks. The design features aggressive wide-body arches housing deep-dish racing wheels wrapped in sticky Advan rubber, giving the compact chassis an exceptionally aggressive stance. Details such as tactical tape across the headlights, custom window lettering reading Popeye, and specialized racing decals emphasize its track-ready persona, blending nostalgia with a hyper-modern digital art execution. While this particular iteration exists purely in the digital realm as a stylized render rather than a physical track car, it pays profound homage to the golden era of British saloon car racing. Concepts like this capture the boundless imagination of automotive artists who continue to push the visual boundaries of what classic motorsport icons can look like when stripped down and reimagined for a modern audience.
