A couple of weeks later and I still don’t have the words. There is literally too many people to thank. It might look like one day but I had this idea in February. The amount of people behind the scenes is crazy. The amount of messages I got? Cannot count. I just cannot put into words how grateful and overwhelmed I am. It’s not just about the money (currently $5973 and counting) it’s the support. I have so much to express but still cannot find the words. But I left the house at 2am with my oldest son @sebastian_dreger who came home straight home from - wherever he was - to escort me from our house and I finished with my youngest @hammer_dregs As a mum I couldn’t ask for more than that. But between my oldest son and my youngest son? I literally never walked alone. Not for a second. I always had at least two people. As a mum of a deaf kid, THIS is what we need - someone walking with us along the journey and through the storms - friends, family, coaches, classmates, politicians but most importantly DEAF MENTORS. So thank you, for putting the hope in my heart ❤️ #deaf #auslan

Last week Natasha walked 60km for Deaf Children Australia; she was joined by many compassionate guests including MPs, councillors, Rotarians from the Peninsula, Olympians, DCA staff and a very special guest appearance by David Grant. Natasha was accompained by Sarah Goyen, a parent mentor at DCA, for the entire 60kms. We are so proud of the work Natasha continues to do for Deaf Children Australia. Congratulations on your MASSIVE walk! It is not too late to donate to Natasha's MASSIVE walk. #auslan #dca #fundraising #walk #melbourne

Pride Month, International Women’s Day, IDAHOBIT, and International Day of People with Disabilities - these are just some of the international visibility dates you may recognise from your calendar. Annual days like these celebrate and recognise diverse communities. Major brands often create campaigns that coincide with these awareness dates, but time and again, marginalised voices vanish from the narrative the moment their designated day, week, or month ends. “People exist outside of international visibility days,” says Mikaela Copland ( @mikaelacopland ), founder of diverse talent agency ‘Tall Poppy Mgmt’ ( @tallpoppymgmt ). She points out that while these dates serve as a valuable reminder that diverse “communities exist,” brands routinely revert to “the same sea of people” for the rest of the year. “There’s a difference between being tokenistic and actually being authentic in your representation,” says Copland, “I just don’t see a lot of representation of like our actual Australian community.” Queer and Deaf actor, children’s performer and creator David Grant ( @davidiaangrant ) echoes this sentiment. “We have our own identities that we represent, we do not let our disability and Deafness define who we are,” says Grant, “we have our own unique ways of doing things - I do believe that every brand should work with diverse talent because we have the same job as other influencers, but just different approaches.” So, while a brand aligning itself with an international visibility day might look supportive at face value, pay attention to what happens when the calendar moves on. What is that brand’s relationship with diverse communities outside of those visibility dates? Was their campaign a genuine show of solidarity - or just another box-ticking exercise? (Image description: Photo of Mikaela Copland in a rainbow flower patterned top while talking on a pink retro phone. Above is a quote from her that reads, “people exist outside of international visibility days.” The following slides include text that are in the above caption.)

Some really lovely news ❤️ The 314 Movement has been nominated for Community Initiative of the Year at the Yarra Community Awards. And this nomination isn’t just ours.
It belongs to all of us. What started with a simple practice: 3 Gratitudes. 1 Support. 4 Breaths. and an awareness day on March 14, has grown because of the people who showed up, volunteered, shared, connected and believed in what we’re building. What matters most is the people. The person who made a new connection.
The person who felt less alone.
The person who checked in on a friend.
The person who found somewhere they belonged. That’s what 314 is about. 🩵 Thank you to every volunteer, partner, organisation and community member who continues to make this movement what it is. This nomination belongs to all of us. 3 Gratitudes. 1 Support. 4 Breaths. #314Movement #EuphoriaFoundation
