A tiny sonic glimpse of the METEORA Theremin, tested here with standard repertoire just a few hours after my first encounter with this beautiful new instrument at @metmuseum in New York.
The METEORA Theremin was commissioned by the MET’s @metmusicalinstruments galleries in collaboration with @davidkfreeman Associate Educator at the MET.
Having collaborated with @cyrillance84 on multiple @moogsynthesizers theremins in the past, I reached out to him to envision a new instrument: a contemporary theremin that honors the pioneering legacies of Lev Termen and Robert Moog.
Cyril brought METEORA to life, combining a modified Moog Etherwave circuit, a custom tube amplifier by @carramps & a handcrafted mahogany cabinet by @hayesfinefurniture Fine Furniture.
Playing METEORA reminds me how profoundly an instrument shapes a musician’s possibilities. I am so excited to explore its unique voice through new compositions!
My heartfelt thanks to Cyril and everyone on the team who helped bring METEORA to life, and to David Freeman and the entire MET team @jaysonkerrdobney @gloriayunwonlee @alexacummins @max.hollein for making this collaboration possible and welcoming the instrument into its new home. METEORA will now be used for music education at the MET!
✨ Coming up: November 14th! Join me for the next theremin workshop at the MET, in collaboration with the @nythereminsociety , featuring METEORA.

Last week, the New York Public Radio Community Advisory Board had the privilege of stepping inside the @metmuseum @metmusicalinstruments department for an unforgettable performance.

Our own @davidkfreeman, who serves on the CAB and, by day, is an educator at The Met, graciously hosted CAB members and alumni for an exclusive tour of the Musical Bodies exhibit (on display through September 27) and a private concert in the musical instruments galleries.

David and fellow musician, @mustafabhagat, introduced us to a classical Indian raga performed on sitar and drums, an experience one CAB alum described afterward as "simply sublime."

It's a powerful reminder of how music connects us across cultures, time, and bodies of knowledge. Deep gratitude to David, the Met team, and everyone who made this morning of art and sound possible.

This week, the New York Public Radio Community Advisory Board officially kicked off its 2026–2027 term with an inspiring first meeting at the station.

It was a privilege to meet with Stephanie Clary, Editor-in-Chief of the @wnyc and @gothamist newsroom, and learn more about the important work being done to deliver trusted, impactful journalism that informs and connects communities across New York.

The conversation reinforced the vital role public media plays in amplifying diverse voices, fostering civic engagement, and ensuring our communities have access to accurate, meaningful information.

We're excited for the year ahead as we continue the mission of the New York Public Radio Community Advisory Board, serving as a bridge between New Yorkers and NYPR, listening to community perspectives, and helping strengthen public radio's impact across the communities we serve.

We look forward to our continued collaboration with NYPR staff throughout the year to support its important work.

Now open @metmuseum, Musical Bodies!
The first major exhibition to explore the relationship between musical instruments and the body. From clapping hands and tapping feet to beatboxing and whistling, the human body is a musical instrument.

Today I had the honor of talking with @stepafrika
Founder C. Brian Williams. We sat in front of their video, featured at the entrance of the exhibition, and talked about the power of stepping.

Step Afrika! was founded 32 years ago and have toured over 60 countries and counting. They promote stepping as an educational tool for young people, focusing on teamwork, academic achievement, and cross-cultural understanding.

Step Afrika! headlined President Barack Obama’s Black History Month Reception and performed at the first-ever Juneteenth Celebration at the White House.

Thank you a million times!❤️🎶

Mayıs ayına neler sığmadı ki...

Amerika'dan Türkiye'ye festivaller, konserler, resitaller, seminerler, sempozyumlar, sunumlar...

How much could possibly fit into one May?

From America to Turkey festivals, concerts, recitals, seminars, symposiums, presentations... It was probably one of the longest and most fullfilling months of my life. I had the opportunity to share the result of years of hard work on international platforms. Looking back, l can hardly believe how quickly this past year has gone by.

This journey, which began at @harvard opened new horizons in both my mind and aspirations. Once again, l was reminded that success in not merely an outcome it is a continuous act of moving forward. Its taking action, putting in the effort and persevering with faith and determination. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported me along the way. Here's to new goals, new dreams and new beginnings.
