"My mama says I began drawing at age 3 after seeing The Wizard of Oz. I would soon incorporate the Muppets, Flintstones and other characters into my Oz drawings. I began making books (which were really just storyboards) in which the characters go on weird and goofy adventures. I went to the Cleveland Institute of Art, but after a spiritual crisis I changed careers and went to graduate school to study social work. Today, I work in a criminal justice setting with individuals suffering from mental illness and addiction. A few years ago I began drawing again after a lengthy period of unintentional abstinence from art. Now, I am more inspired, excited, invested and curious about all things art then I’ve ever been! My work is mostly strange and wild and colorful. I love to draw weird looking people and creatures in tripped-out settings. It doesn’t really get deeper than that, at least not that I’m aware of. My current medium is mostly marker but I also do graphite portraits as well as 3D Christmas village houses made from cereal boxes, paint and a ridiculous amount of glitter (that’s more a seasonal project). As of February 2021, I am working on getting digital prints of my drawings and selling them on my new website/online shop (which is in the making!) So hopefully y’all can stay tuned for that. I was born, raised and still live in beautiful Cleveland, Ohio. Artists who I really admire and love include: Henry Darger, James Ensor, R.Crumb, Cindy Sherman, Ivan Albright, Grandma Moses, Norman Rockwell, Francisco Goya, Simon Stalenhag, Michelangelo, Chuck Close, Todd Schorr, the original 9 Disney animators, makeup artist Rick Baker, the writing of Stephen King and the music of Vangelis and Tori Amos." Welcoming David Menke to the artists collective, a mark maker based in Ohio. The amount of color you use and the settings you use in your pieces seriously reminds us of the psychedelic cartoons that used to dominate in the 40s-70s, which is spectacular! Every last detail of how you compose these pieces seems to have a fluid feeling to it, and it brings everything together so beautifully. Thank you so much for submitting❣️
