We’re delighted to announce our new album Tabibito-tachi 旅人達 (The Travellers) on WonderfulSound

Recorded in rented apartments and rehearsal rooms on the move last year through Japan, China and London, the album grew out of a constantly shifting creative process.

We set up wherever we were staying, turning temporary rooms into makeshift studios and capturing ideas as they emerged between journeys.

The first single Shinobi 忍 is out now on all streaming platforms. Go check it out.

Tabitito-tachi is available to pre order now on 12” vinyl via Bandcamp. Anyone who orders the vinyl online will receive it before it hits the internet! Link in bio.

Sunday 18th October | From 7pm

Our next Friends of Hazéls evening welcomes London-based harpist and composer Rachel Kitchlew with Oscar Robertson, David Bardon, Josh McClorey and Deanna Wilhelm, introducing her album Flirty Ghost.

Blurring the lines between jazz, ambient and experimental music, Rachel is known for taking the harp somewhere altogether unexpected, creating music that feels playful, cinematic and beautifully atmospheric. Flirty Ghost is an evocative, deeply personal record full of texture and character.

Join us from 7pm on Sunday 18th October for an intimate evening of music, food and storytelling at Hazéls.

Bookings for tables of up to 4 guests can be made online. Email reservations@hazels-stalbans.co.uk for larger table bookings.

‘Ecology Division’ has arrived… Our compilation featuring songs from @rachelhkharp @donut__jam @dannyscottlane @korovo.music @birocratic @pimentacaseira @nmarksmusik @kartiksudhera @sholtomusic @davidnbardon @lapganlapgan and @mmsimonmm is available now on vinyl LP …

Buy link is where it always is! 🌲

Ecology Division is a new compilation from Bastard Jazz that maps a broader network of producers and musicians working across jazz, soul, electronic, and beat-driven music. Featuring artists from London, Lisbon, Montreal, Brooklyn, Chicago, and beyond, the project focuses on collaborators and peers whose work exists in close orbit to the label, forming a loose but interconnected creative system. Moving fluidly between live instrumentation and forward-leaning production, the compilation brings these different approaches into a single frame.

Across ten tracks, Ecology Division captures the diversity within that system, from the harp-led jazz of Rachel Kitchlew & DOUGH to the stripped-back Rhodes minimalism of Simon Mavin (Haitus Kaiyote). Lapgan brings a psychedelic, beat-driven approach, while Kartik leans into a choppy, sample-led hip-hop palette. Korovo explores synth-forward, new wave-adjacent electronic territory, and Birocratic and Danny Scott Lane each contribute groove-led, funk-informed productions built on analog textures and live instrumentation. Contributions from Nick Marks and Sholto & David Bardon further expand the field, illustrating how distinct voices can operate independently while remaining part of a shared musical environment.

Visually, Ecology Division takes cues from vintage field guides and naturalist illustration, with each single paired to a distinct animal. The artwork mirrors the project’s underlying framework, suggesting a form of cataloging and interrelation. Together, the music and imagery position the compilation not as a traditional compilation, but as a snapshot of an active and evolving ecosystem around Bastard Jazz.

More beauty from @palace_records_ with their latest releases, the new @marlonbianco_music LP (produced by @sholtomusic and @davidnbardon AKA @sfj_music_ ) is an absolutely wondrous mixture of library, vintage Euro pop, twisted exotica and heavy rhythms that’s got me hooked (particularly the 2nd side which delivers all of the above so brilliantly), and label head Andrei Nikolsky has delivered another ace 7” of vintage grooves in style. Highly recommended musical delights! DIG IT! X
