Happy birthday @davidvegt ! I remember bringing this guy to show and tell in elementary school because he was the coolest guy I knew. Then we worked together for over 15 years and always got along so well as cousins, friends, and business partners. I feel lucky to have spent so much time together going through good time and the hard ones. Love you cuz!

#ATHINTERVIEW
David Vegt’s paintings aren’t about likeness — they’re about presence. Faces and landscapes that feel aware of you, as if the canvas is quietly looking back. His work doesn’t perform. It listens.

When we spoke with David, the story didn’t start in galleries or art school. It started in Vernon, British Columbia. A small town. A father who was a professional photographer, never wealthy, but genuinely happy doing what he loved. Watching that gave David something rare: permission. Not to chase money first and art later — but to commit to the work itself and accept whatever followed.

"Enjoying the Moment " 9 x 12 inch oil painting. I started this in David Vegt's portrait class in the spring. I finally brought it to completion. I am quite pleased with it. This is from a photo shoot I did with my daughter back in our Cold Lake days. I did a photo shoot with my son that day as well, which resulted in a pastel painting a few years ago. He did not wear the crown of petals.
