ART GIRL SUMMER

I planned to make a lot of paintings this summer, but then decided to continue on down my textile-drawing adventure path.

Fortunately, I was able to return to what is possibly my all-time creative happy place: Joyful Still Lives with @daweski

Laura’s studio is where I first sat down to draw in January 2023 and is a place I have returned to many, many times to learn, to find community of hilarious brilliant and kind humans, to revel in the shapes of flower petals and the sometimes incomprehensible lines of their stems, to sweat over colour mixing, and to revel in the amazingly different ways our eyes and hands and hearts perceive and reflect the world in paint and pencil.

Thanks for five of the best summer nights of 2026!

More drawing! More joy!

One lovely thing about making a bunch of drawings is that you can fill your wall with those drawings and they can keep you company and quietly remind you of the things you have learned and of the flowers you have seen in new ways and of the peaches you have truly appreciated and of the laughter and warmth of sharing creations with friends and of the many, many ways you have changed and of the promise of change to come.

Three new drawings (made at Joyful Still Lives with @daweski ) joined this gang that has been growing for three years.

Onwards, to more drawing and more joy.

Thank you for showing up—for yourselves, for each other, for the circle.

There is something deeply powerful about choosing to arrive, just as you are, in a sacred space to honour the turning of the season and the changes moving through us all.

Strong, resilient community systems are not built overnight—they are nurtured through care, through presence, through the quiet commitment of showing up again and again. Today was a reflection of that. A reminder that consistency, even in its most imperfect form, is what weaves us together.

Let this be your invitation to keep showing up imperfectly. To lean into the discomfort instead of turning away. To move with love, even when it feels unfamiliar. To listen—deeply, honestly—to the voice within you that already knows the way.

I’ve come to trust that voice more and more. Working closely with both dogs and people has sharpened my awareness of energy, of intuition, of what feels aligned and what doesn’t. And so I am choosing, again and again, to move toward what feels good, what feels true, what honours the kind of world I want to live in.

Because we have to start acting as if radical transformation is not only possible—but already underway. 🌱🌀✨🌞
