“I fell in love.” /// Memorial Van Damme ’26.

I know this is late, but here are my images from last Friday. It took me a while, but that was actually a good thing: I had the time to sit with the work and edit it properly. I enjoyed every minute of it. Athletics is wild, with 2,822,388 things happening at the same time, and I was mostly terrified that a shot put would suddenly hit me in the head. Thankfully, that didn’t happen. :’)

I spent far too long fine-tuning this series, from the opening image to the very last one. I even let it sit overnight. I’m still not entirely sure about it, but I enjoyed taking the time to really work through the series.

Fuck, this was cool. Everything moves so fast, hahahaha, there isn’t a second to get bored, and I missed that feeling. At the same time, boredom often gives me my best images. I had to look at every frame about sixty times. I was photographing almost on autopilot, and it’s been a long time since I felt that way.

As for the gear: everything was shot on 35mm and 300mm. The latter often, maybe too often, boxed me in with its fixed focal length. But that limitation is also what made it exciting: missing images, trying to make the best of what I had, searching, and above all, having no certainty.

I’ve also uploaded the full album. You can view it here: https://larscrommelinck.pic-time.com/QvKAkUHYfE8Lx

Thank you, Memorial, for the opportunity and for giving me the time. I’d love to do it again.

📷 Shot with Sony A1 & A7 V /// 35mm & 300mm. (Thanks, @sonyalpha / @sony.benelux, for lending me the 300mm. you’re the absolute best.)
