One week of eating in Toronto, part 2 of 3. . A perfect light dinner @aloetterestaurants sitting at the bar with @taraobrady. It’s a favourite nosh-and-gab spot for us and I will never not love it there. I especially appreciate that they will do half orders on many of the dishes—making a grazing meal much easier. Delicious tomatoes, fried chicken, and always, always the wedge salad. And haiii @patrickkriss, lovely to see you, it’s been a while! . Another perfect light-ish nosh-and-gab dinner the next night with @foodpr0n at the bar @primeseafoodpalace. Holy cow, @coulsoncooks’ burger and fries are shades of perfect and a fantastic splurge. The tres leches cake from @marilsl was sooo good. The best service from (and nerdy chats with) Raimey and Jess. . Friday night @letambourtavern in Hamilton with my beloved @bdiversitygroup. First time to this very cute spot and was not disappointed. Loved their fun take on a panzanella salad and yes, please to those perfectly crisp and fluffy chunky fries. Lovely service, tasty food, will return. Serendipity to see @tastehamont there—thank you for the ginger cake, Jen! It went home with Ren and was reported to be very delicious. . A @phancybodega grilled cheese lunch with @somachocolatemaker peeps. This was my tuna melt grilled cheese and I devoured it. Every other Phancy’s grilled cheese variant was ordered and reported to be damn tasty (hubby loved his breakfast grilled cheese). . I couldn’t help but have one of my precious stash of @futuragraniteria cantaloupe granita freezies. I bought a supply to get me through the winter. They have freezies in stock right now and you should go get some so you won’t be too sad when granita season ends. . The first half of a Saturday AFM carb fest to celebrate @misfittoye’s birthday was goods from @emmertoronto. Sausage roll (always hits), savoury brioches, cherry brioche, cookies (the PB miso cookie is especially good), a loaf of their delicious sesame bread. . . Introducing… Raspberry Chocolate Softserve Sammies this week guys!!! 🥳 We packed our housemade vanilla softserve with a ton of freeze-dried raspberries and also added a layer of bright raspberry curd. They’re then sandwiched with a chewy chocolate dacquoise we made with @somachocolatemaker dark flakes 😍 Will do our best to keep these in stock for the next 3 weekends. 6月24日皆さんもご存じの通りベネズエラで大変大きな地震が発生しました。今もなお行方不明の方も多数おられ、亡くなられた方も多く怪我をされている方も多数いらっしゃる状況です。 チョコレート好きな皆さんはご存じの通り、ベネズエラは有数のフレーバービーンズのカカオ生産国として知られる場所。たくさんのカカオ産業従事者がいらっしゃいます。 私たちはその恩恵を受けて、薫り高いチョコレートをいただいています。 ベネズエラ人である友人のアラショコラ、そして今はなき愛すべきカカオパーソンのルイスもベネズエラの出身。仲間の家族もいます。 国際的援助は必須で様々なレスキュー、支援もすでに動いていると思いますが、自分たちができることは、、今あるベネズエラのカカオを使用したチョコレートを大切にいただくこと。ぜひ召し上がってください。 アラショコラのクヤグア１００％、７０％、ソマチョコレートのオールドスクールミルクなどが現在あります。 そしてもし募金に参加できるなら、 @chocolaterosunidosporvenezuela が立ち上がており、gofundme で募金を募っています。 ７月７日ワールドチョコレートデーです。私たちが世界中にいるチョコレートの仲間を思いあう日でありたいと思います。 下記はgo fund me の日本語訳です。 世界中のベネズエラ人チョコレートメーカーが団結し、ベネズエラを支援 2026年6月24日、ベネズエラは2度の大規模地震に見舞われ、中部および北部の広い地域で甚大な被害が発生しました。現在も救援活動が続けられていますが、多くの家族が住まいと生計を失い、不安な日々を送っています。 この悲劇を受け、世界各地で活動するベネズエラ人チョコレートメーカー、カカオ業界の専門家、そしてベネズエラを愛する仲間たちが力を合わせ、この募金活動を立ち上げました。 私たちについて 私たちは国際的なカカオ・チョコレートコミュニティの一員です。 この活動には、Aroko Chocolate Ara Chocolat、Gaia Cacao、Cacao en Broma、Semilla Escuela Cacao、Silvia Guédez、Jonas Rosales、Vanessa Rolfini、Ricardo Trillos（The Choconnector）、Corina Gimenez、Cacao Zoku、Yam Yam をはじめ、多くのチョコレートメーカー、カカオの専門家、ボランティアが参加しています。 私たちは皆ベネズエラ人であり、そして何より、一つの大きなコミュニティの仲間です。 現在は主にヨーロッパをはじめ世界各国で暮らし、それぞれの仕事に携わっていますが、仕事、人とのつながり、そしてベネズエラ産カカオへの深い情熱を通して、今も故郷ベネズエラと強く結ばれています。 なぜ募金を行うのか 私たちの多くは、長年にわたりベネズエラのカカオ生産地域と直接関わってきました。 ある者はこれらの地域からカカオを調達し、ある者はBean to Barチョコレートを製造し、またある者は教育者、コンサルタント、研究者、あるいはカカオ産業の普及活動に携わっています。 私たちにとって、これらの地域の人々は単なる取引先ではありません。 長年ともに歩んできた友人であり、仲間であり、家族のような存在です。 現在、人道支援は当然ながら都市部を優先して進められています。しかし、山間部や農村部に位置するカカオ生産コミュニティが取り残されることのないよう、私たちは支援を届けたいと考えています。 寄付金の使い道 被害の全容は現在も調査中です。 初期の報告では、クヤグア（Cuyagua） や チョロニ（Choroní） などのカカオ生産地域で、住宅や地域インフラに深刻な被害が発生している可能性が示されています。 しかし、寄付金を配分する前に、信頼できる現地の関係者や地域住民と連携し、実際のニーズを確認したうえで、本当に支援を必要としている人々へ確実に届けたいと考えています。 そのため、私たちの当面の目標は、必要な支援内容が明確になった時点ですぐに行動できるよう、まず資金を確保することです。 被害状況の確認後、集まった寄付金は被災したカカオ生産コミュニティの支援のためだけに使用されます。 支援内容は現地で確認された必要性に応じて、以下のような用途に充てられる予定です。 緊急食料・飲料水の提供 仮設住居の確保 医療用品の支援 住宅の再建 地域施設の復旧 カカオ農家への支援 地域住民自身が必要と判断したその他の緊急復興支援 可能な限り、支援は受益者へ直接届けるか、私たちが長年信頼関係を築いてきた現地の団体やコミュニティリーダーを通じて実施します。 私たちの約束 この活動で最も大切にしているのは透明性です。 支援先や寄付金の配分が決まり次第、以下の内容を定期的に報告します。 支援を受けるコミュニティ 寄付金の使途 皆さまの寄付によって実現した支援の成果 私たちは、一枚のチョコレート、一軒の小さなチョコレートショップ、一つのカカオ農園、そして一人の「誰かを助けたい」という想いから、連帯は始まると信じています

�🍫Monday 🍫 Monday 🍫 Catch up time with postings! Back to last Monday….June 22nd, 2026…. A wee glimpse of the chocolate haul that followed me home from Sensory in Taiwan experience curated by @MonicaMeschini one of three @ChocolateTasters co-founders. I always find that gathering to share and taste with friends in the chocolate field becomes equal portions of a food-for-thought and full sensory experience for the palate and all of our senses. A fun and experiential learning for all. Thank you David @dc__soma and Cyn for sharing precious time, and passion as we all enjoyed in-depth tour of your @SomachocolateMaker factory aka chocolate lab. The avid gardener in me loved your community garden! Honoured to taste the new chocolates you’re testing right now. So glad that @MellisChocolate were able to take a well-deserved break to treat themselves while sharing coveted bars by @YiShiCacao ! Glad to have fellow Canadian Craft Chocolate Judge & Grand Juror (and brilliant instructor @FindSallyHere ). Thanks for sharing @KinaChocolate that followed you back from Spain! Catching up on a couple of months of favourite bites. I’ve not been posting much because *waves hands at the world* but as always, I want to share good places and people. . Another beautiful Sunday lunch in February @edulisrestaurant. It never lets me down. . A fun, tasty brunch @ohirucafe. Can’t beat a classic breakfast with toasted shokupan. . This year’s heart @somachocolatemaker. Absolutely my fave of all the hearts over the years. . The bean and cheese burrito @theborroweddonkey. A favourite car snack. Handmade flour tortilla with lard FTW. . I didn’t think I cared about caviar. Turns out I needed to have caviar service with perfect crispy hashbrown patties @primeseafoodpalace to change my mind. And hello to that super lovely citrus entremet… . Hot pot party with friends at the Soma Factory. What a joy. . Watching @ridetowander make delicious roast duck in the Soma roasting room was amazing. . Chef Eva’s pastrami speaks so deeply to my soul and I hope it shows up on another @yandiningroom menu in the future. . This perfect beef shumai from @stevenche. Part of his collab w/Chef Eva at Yan. . A wonderful dinner with my hubby at the bar @linnysrestaurant. Love the new cocktails and loved sharing the Linny’s classics with him. . The bacon and cheese salt bread @davangluna. Decadently buttery. Yum. . The shredded pork with green chilis @hotspicytoronto. They are closing on Monday and I am gutted. . Tasty tasty dinner @eemkhao. Love that roast pork. . Sourdough boules and baby baguettes @roxanne_sourdough. Love sharing this bit of NOTL with friends. . The wonderful hand rolls, kimchi pancake, and hamburg steak @izumi_sushi_restaurant. A perfect meal to gab with girlfriends. . . What have been your favourite eats lately?

The saddest news for Toronto’s Sichuan food lovers: Hot Spicy Spicy is closing. I’m gutted, truly. Because I haven’t found anyone else doing this classic style of Sichuan cooking. These are the old school dishes. The ones I grew up with on Sundays in Chinatown in Chicago. And Mama Chen and her team are masters at their craft. . As soon as we saw Simon’s story @hotspicytoronto saying they were closing on March 31, we grabbed some friends and make our way to North York and we FEASTED on so many of our faves. The kitchen was firing on all cylinders and all the dishes were top notch. . The good news is that Simon says they’re going to stay open a couple of extra months, probably until June. So take this as your notice to get yourselves there before they are gone. I know we’ll be gathering more troops and eating there again before the end. . This is what we had last night: . Yibin spicy oiled noodles Dan dan noodles Dry pot cabbage Fish fillet in boiling hot oil Minced pork with pickled long bean Mama Chen’s spicy trotters Mapo tofu Signature cumin flavor lamb shoulder Signature popcorn chicken with chili pepper Chopped cucumber with garlic sauce Shredded pork with green pepper Fried pork rinds .
