One of the things I value most about @homofaber is the way it speaks about craftsmanship in the present tense.

This is also what keeps me engaged with the initiative: the opportunity to discover practices rooted in remarkable knowledge and skill, yet very much connected to contemporary culture.

At “An Island of Light”, centuries-old techniques coexist with experimentation, unexpected materials, bold forms and new ways of thinking about function, beauty and making.

Tradition is present – evolving through the hands and ideas of today’s makers..

Sociedad de la tierra

— Society of the Earth — is an exploration developed within the Albor mentorship program around the territorial, human, and material relationships behind contemporary collectible design.

Through the dialogue between five mentors and five Colombian designers, the exhibition reflects on how we inhabit the land, how local craft evolves, and how matter can become a physical archive of landscape, time, memory, and ways of making.

Beyond the object itself, Society of the Earth proposes design as a collaborative and conscious practice, deeply rooted in its surroundings and responsive to the social, ecological, and cultural transformations of our time.

In between Wood and Fire.

Didi NG Wing Yin works with solid-sawn construction lumber, embracing the cracks and deformations that are usually considered imperfections. Through splitting, carving and charring, each piece reveals the wood's inherent qualities, bringing forward a raw and expressive material language.

A collection that invites a renewed appreciation for wood in its most honest form.

@dd_ng (Hong Kong / Finland) is a Helsinki based wood artist whose practice bridges sculpture, design, and craft through a distinctive approach to carving. His work centres on revealing the inherent character of wood, balancing material integrity with intuition, craftsmanship, and conceptual inquiry.
Guided by his philosophy of Naturalness, Ng allows the material itself to direct the making process. Rather than imposing form upon wood, he works in dialogue with its structure, preserving its originality while uncovering new possibilities within the medium.

The collection emerges from a daily intimacy with wood through sight and touch. It seeks to heighten qualities that often remain unseen, bringing attention to the subtle forces and patterns embedded within the material. In Pleats Vase, each vessel is shaped by the natural twisting of wood fibres within the tree trunk, resulting in forms that are singular yet inviting. A specialised brushing technique accentuates the spiralling grain, creating a tactile surface with an almost textile-like quality.

Through its layered appearance, softness, and interaction with light, Wood Pleats reveals the quiet poetry of wood, transforming a familiar material into an object of contemplation and touch.

Inspired by the organic split surfaces of Finnish firewood, the “Pleats Vase” by Didi Ng Wing Yin, transforms solid wood into a pleated texture that resembles light, soft fabric. By arranging the wood grain to face outwards, Ng reveals the material’s intrinsic aesthetics, creating a vessel that appears fragile yet strong.

Thanks to @orangeterry, who also is crafting something truly special for us for this years auction, has been friends with Didi, put us in touch; as a huge fan of Didi- who is Based in Helsinki and originally from Hong Kong; Ng is an acclaimed wood artist whose practice bridges sculpture and craft. A graduate of Aalto University, his carving techniques have earned him international recognition, including being a finalist for the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize 2025 and winning Emerging Designer of the Year at the 2024 Dezeen Awards. DESIGN TRUST is excited to announce the theme “The Art of Movement” for Design Trust Charity Benefit Auction 2026. Benefitting the design and creative communities, in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area Region, this year’s philanthropic event will take place from Central to the Peak, on Friday 20th March 2026, with the exhibition at the St. John’s Building, located in Hong Kong’s Central business district and houses the lower terminus of the Peak Tram @thepeakhk. DESIGN TRUST is proud to honour, Foster + Partners' global practice, to receive the “Design Trust Legacy Award for 2026”.

Design Trust non-profit organisation is Art Basel Hong Kong 2026’s Cultural Partner, focused on design; with dynamic public programming from March 27th to April 12th 2026. "The Art of Movement" is led by Marisa Yiu, Lead Curator/ Executive Director of DESIGN TRUST, with a series of curatorial programmes from Central Waterfront to the Peak, celebrating Hong Kong’s architectural and natural landscape. Championed by an illustrious Benefit committee, the Charity Auction features over 25 thematic and unique works generously donated by artists, designers and galleries, a collective community celebrating architecture, art and natural landscapes of the city through time from 1980s to the present.

All the fundraising proceeds, support Design Trust’s ongoing efforts on the development of a digital and architectural grants archive, amplifying the educational impact and research excellence of our grants and fellowship schemes; Design Trust Impact Grant initiatives including Open House Hong Kong and Inter-island Festival exploring the rich local culture and heritage; DESIGN TRUST FUTURES STUDIO Greater Bay Area programme: “Nature is Nurture is Nature” mentor-mentee programme for our regional community; The newly launched Design Trust Fellowship at V&A East in London, fostering international exchange; alongside our ongoing grants, design research and fellowship projects.

The Wood Pleats Collection explores the hidden softness of wood through @dd_ng unique carving and brushing technique, transforming solid timber into delicately pleated, textile-like surfaces that invite touch and reflection.

Central to the series is the designer's distinctive carving and brushing technique, which draws out the organic rhythms of the grain and transforms solid timber into pleated, cloth-like surfaces. The result is a surprising material illusion—wood that appears weightless, fluid, and soft.
