SARA CABRERA BEATS THE VUELTA CHAMPION AND GOES HEAD-TO-HEAD WITH ENRIC MAS ON SKATES IN LA NUCÍA 🛼🚴‍♀️🔥 Speed skating also took centre stage at the III International Critérium Gran Fondo La Nucía, held last weekend, where Sara Cabrera took on a very special challenge: racing against two top professional cyclists on her skates. Sara Cabrera Casino, a speed skater from Valencia, is a multiple Spanish champion, a Spanish national team athlete and a European junior champion. She has also excelled in ice speed skating, achieving international success and setting two Spanish national records in the 1,000m and 1,500m last year. 🚴‍♀️ Two duels, one big challenge. The challenge consisted of completing one lap of an 800-metre circuit, with Sara taking a flying start while the cyclists were held back for a few seconds. The course was particularly demanding, with uphill sections and rough, cobblestone-like asphalt. 🥇 First duel: Sara faced Paula Blasi, winner of the women’s Vuelta a España, and managed to beat the professional cyclist! 🔥 Second duel: Just minutes later, she went head-to-head with Enric Mas, who narrowly edged her out as Sara was already feeling the effects of her first race. 💬 “I’m really happy I had the opportunity to showcase our sport, and I hope I did it justice,” Sara told us. The challenge took place during race number collection for the Gran Fondo scheduled for the following day, which unfortunately had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. 👏 Congratulations, Sara! Beyond the results, this challenge was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the speed, intensity and excitement of our sport to the cycling community. 📸 Photos courtesy of event organisers.
