Discovering the prolific life of artist and writer Edward Lear

I have been making these slightly strange little sketches ever since I was a boy now. Managing to blag my way into art school as a teen… I never thought in my wildest imagination that I would ever make something of them, or that they might help me creatively. However for almost a decade now I have been able to do so and incorporate them into the storyboards that end up becoming my now many music videos that help me conceptualise the ideas for my single releases. These particular original sketches ended up getting used while I was coming up with the idea for my latest release ‘The Tides Won’t Rule The Sea. I am still as influenced now by the almost childlike simplicity and storytelling of British artists such as Sir Quentin Blake, who was most famous for his bringing to life the stories of Roald Dahl @quentinblakehq Plus by utterly my favourite both poetically and illustration wise Edward Lear. @dearedwardlear Even Tim Burton has influenced and inspired me as he always incorporated his sketches into his own storyboards too🪶 Utterly making these odd little drawings help me, and are now a vital part and if you will extra string to my own storytelling bow… Hope that you are enjoying the video that is out now over on my YouTube channel Oliver Shaw Music. Give it a nice comment! Olly @theolivershawexperience Also @theolivershawexperience #londonartist #storyteller #originalartworks #independentartist

The White Fox. They closed New York for Chaplin. They closed it for King Kong. They shut my town forever, for doing nothing wrong. They tried to chase the white fox, to lynch him where he sat. When he was only sleeping upon my neighbours mat. They bit at him and fort him, awoke him from a dream. They led him an unmerry dance, they chased him down a stream. They banged at him and barked, until his body was pale. They cursed at him for bloodied sport, a very strangely dogged tail. He highly jumped around and hid, behind a bin or two. He peaked out of the chickens coop, he feared the most, and most of a foxy soup. He leaped a garden long and wide. He listened quick, with eyes a glance at open stride. He thought about his mother’s pride as they glanced him up at the almost dawn. What fate he knew not, as he didn’t know that much. Just a cub in not much of a world to screech of yet. No human soul could save him now, nor auntie or a vet. He’d never make a super star, a cuddle hungry pet. For if white fox could ever speak or translate all he’d been. He would tell us all I am quite sure that he’d lived mostly in a dream. 🦊 #poem #londonpoet #foxlover #foxes #olivershawmusic

Today marks the anniversary of the extraordinary and versatile artist Edward Lear. Born on this day in 1812, Lear had a lifelong love of birds and began drawing professionally whilst still a teenager. His fascination with birds began even earlier. Born in London as the twentieth child of a family of twenty-one — though only around eleven survived into adulthood — he was raised largely by his eldest sister Ann after his parents faced severe financial difficulties. Frail throughout childhood and affected by poor eyesight, asthma and epilepsy — a condition he would live with throughout his life — Lear turned increasingly toward drawing and the natural world. Song lyrics to the forthcoming next single release! Accompanied with a little sketch by @olivershawsketshes From the music video storyboard that am also making. More on this to be revealed soon… Nice weekend to you all. Olly @theolivershawexperience Clementine. “Clementine would you be my girlfriend. You could be my only best friend. In the middle of our summer. I see your picture, I would not forget you. Clementine you were mine forever. In the middle of October. In the mist you seize the picture. Lost forever I will not forget you. Chorus. Tell me all your dreams all your secret verses. Tell me who you’d like to be. All I have are thoughts of the love we once had. Of how we always tried to see. Where do you go? Where do you go? Over the sea to sky. I would wait a life for, I would wait a life for, I would wait a life for you. Verse 2nd. Clementine you are mine forever, In the middle, silent splendour. In the middle of December . You’re lost forever, I will not forget you Chorus 2nd Tell me all your dreams all your secret verses. Tell me who you’d like to be. All I have are thoughts of the love we once had. Of how we always tried to see. Where do you go? Where do you go? Over the sea to sky. I would wait a life for, I would wait a life for, I would wait a life for you… #clementine #lovestorys #indieartistmusic #illustration #lovepoem
