Had fun making this for my wife for our anniversary. One day my son saw what I was working on, and he wanted to help, so he helped a little with the repaints, paper cutting, and placement of the flowers. Originally I worked on it by myself because I was afraid my son would mention what I was working on, but he was pretty good at keeping it a secret.

Happy Anniversary @ms_belvien!

I've been waiting all week for this unboxing! 🙌 So excited to turn these awesome book covers from @withloveandpetals into new journals for you all. I'll be sending a box of pages back in return so it's quite the symbiotic set-up. 😁

Stay tuned for a closer look at all the covers!

5 years and counting! Thank you @ms_belvien for surprising me with our cake. Totally got the feels when I opened the fridge and saw our cake. Till this day I still can't get over how you were on board with the little details I suggested: the cake toppers, and the little shoe boxes, and even my groomsmen comic book flowers. I remember folding about 100ish of those boxes and thinking we still were only halfway done. But it was worth it in the end. Everything about that day was truly a celebration of "us".

Thank you for being an amazing wife and mother to our crazy cuckoos.

Happy Anniversary my love.

A historical fiction novel as beautifully written as the dresses designed by Lucy Duff Gordon. While I love horror and thrillers, historical fiction is another favorite genre of mine. You know you’ve come across a real gem of a historical fiction novel when you’re instantly transported to another time and get lost in the incredible detail and atmosphere. A DRESS OF VIOLET TAFFETA is my introduction to Tessa Arlen and I can guarantee I’ll be looking for more by her in the future. I highly recommend this to fans of fashion and historical fiction. I learned a lot and I’ll always appreciate that after finishing a book in this genre. Now, time to look for more from Arlen’s backlist!

Have you read Caraval?? This is one of my favorite trilogies. I read it last summer and I think Stephanie’s writing is so beautiful and the setting is so magical and mysterious. I highly recommend this series if you’re looking for a new exciting, engaging, romantic read!

Alright so I know this cover screams vintage horror or haunted house, but this is a crime fiction novel! So don't be fooled before starting - you know that whole don't judge a book by its cover nonsense 😉 thanks to @mcdbooks for the gifted copy 📚

I'll say right now, this won't work for everyone. The changes in narration throughout the book and the different stories we follow really slow the pacing down. There were some parts I wasn't even sure why they were included, unless I completely missed it. At the core this is about a true crime author staying in what's been deemed The Devil House so he could research for his next book about the unsolved murders that occurred there. I loved the writing and the range in this book but there were a few pacing issues for me at points.

Devil House by John Darnielle
.

"Gage Chandler is descended from kings. That's what his mother always told him.
..
Now, he is a true crime writer, with one grisly success--and movie adaptation--to his name, along with a series of subsequent lesser efforts that have paid the bills but not much more. But now he is being offered the chance for the big break: To move into the house--what the locals call "The Devil House"--in which a briefly notorious pair of murders occurred, apparently the work of disaffected 1980s teens. He begins his research with diligence and enthusiasm, but soon the story leads him into a puzzle he never expected--back into his own work and what it means, back to the very core of what he does and who he is."

@withloveandpetals this was so much harder than you made it look. I started this with my kids before Xmas and finished it on my own today. 😂
