Happy World cp Day 2026! This day is about celebrating the lives, achievements, hardships, and sacrifices of the 50 million people that live with the condition worldwide 💚 Every day, people with a condition do things to push boundaries and society's expectations of what is expected of them because of their diagnosis. I am fortunate to get to do this every day through my sporting achievements in both judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu I've gone much further in these sports than people would have expected of someone with my diagnosis, earning medals at national and European levels. I'm forever thankful to my friends, teammates, coaches, and family for their support every day, and I am grateful for the opportunities I get to push boundaries and redefine what is expected of someone with my condition. Happy World cerebral Day 2026! 💚

1 blind man.

1 athlete with cerebral palsy.

2 amputees.

Different disabilities. Different challenges.

But look a little closer.

We’re all smiling.
We’re all learning.
We’re all improving.
And we all understand the power of Jiujitsu.

The mats don’t care where you came from or what obstacles you face.

Show up. Train. Grow.

Jiujitsu is for everyone.

Different abilities. Same mats. Same standards.

ParaJiuJitsu is not about what’s missing.

It’s about what’s possible.

Every athlete in this photo has faced challenges that would stop most people. Yet here we are, training, competing and proving that limitations don’t get the final say.

The mats don’t care about excuses.
They reward effort.
They reward consistency.
They reward those who keep showing up.

If you’re a disabled athlete and you’ve ever thought about trying Jiu Jitsu, this is your sign.

There is a place for you.

Keep Showing Up. 🇬🇧🥋

Jiujitsu isn’t about winning rounds. It’s about turning up, getting put in bad spots, and learning how to deal with it.

That carries over into life.

Being disabled adds another layer. You can’t train like everyone else. So you adapt. You problem solve. You build a game that works for you.

That’s where it becomes life changing.

You realise
You’re not fragile
You’re not limited
You’re capable of more

The mats don’t care about your situation. They show you the truth. Keep showing up and you improve. Simple.

Jiujitsu gives you control in chaos, confidence under pressure, and a mindset that doesn’t quit.

That’s the real win.

If you’re disabled and thinking about starting, just get on the mat.

DM me if you want help getting started.

We are pleased to share this week's Instagram takeover from intern Ali @deathgripbjj, who recently attended the fabulous Samurai exhibition at the @britishmuseum!
--
On 9 April, I was fortunate to go to the @britishmuseum for a private viewing of the Samurai exhibition with the Project Curator, Joe Nickols. It was such an awesome experience. I have always had a fascination with the samurai, particularly how their portrayal in modern forms of media differs from how they lived in reality.
For example, the samurai are often associated with a sword, the katana. However, many samurai were archers and warfare on horseback was relatively common. Many samurai also carried out civic duties, particularly during the Edo period, a time of relative peace.

Speaking of Japanese swords, my interested developed further after I wrote an assignment on them during my MA. I am fascinated by the fact that during the Edo period, swords became a symbol of wealth and status rather than serving a purely military purpose. As a result, the accessories, known as koshirae (拵え) became much more opulent due to more flamboyant designs.

In modern day, the concept of the samurai has permeated into different forms of media such as anime, manga, video games and even Star Wars! The evolution of the samurai archetype always fascinates me.

No excuses. Just showing up.

Some days the body shakes, some days the mind does too… but the mats don’t care — they just reward those who turn up anyway. Disability isn’t a limitation, it’s part of the story. Mental health isn’t a weakness, it’s something we fight for every day.

A great squad session today. We keep building. We keep pushing. We keep showing up. 🥋💪
