It’s been a few weeks since we exhibited our “Brides Pie” dress, modelled here by @deb.kemp.art . Since then we’ve had such a lot of interest in it, and questions about the recipe it is based on…so.. here it is! Created by Elizabeth Raffald, the house keeper @arleyhallandgardens in the late 1700’s. The pie contained brandy and champagne, so was fancy! Perfect for weddings as it was elaborately decorated with pastry leaves and flowers.During April and May the talented Sustainable Stitchers @crosshatchstudios responded to the challenge of bringing the recipe to life #racheldaviesstudio #stitch #cheshire .

Time to show you some images of our “Brides Pie “ dress coming to life!Modelled by @deb.kemp.art Thankyou Deb, it could have been made for you. The 260 hours of stitching by the Sustainable Stitch group @crosshatchstudios in Winford have paid off. We have created a unique response to a recipe for a wedding cake from the 1700’s. #racheldaviesstudio #cheshire #cheshirelife

The Brides Pie dress took 260 hours of stitching to embellish. It was created by my Sustainable Stitch group @crosshatchstudios in Winsford. The group focus on mending ,embroidery and making the most of preloved garments. We were approached by @chester_archives to create a piece that represented a very old recipe they had in their stores.
Over the next few posts I’d like to show you how the group of 12 worked on creating the outcome using a second hand wedding dress, preloved fabrics and a lot of imagination.
I need to thank @deb.kemp.art For agreeing to model the dress and bringing it to life.Thankyou Deb! It could have been made for you. #racheldaviesstudio #deb.kemp.art #chester #cheshire
