Some people leave memories. Some people leave pieces of themselves in you. 🤍

My Uncle Gilbert was one of those people.

I’ll always remember the way he always greeted me: “Hey, beautiful.” 💕 There was something about being greeted that way by a man in my family that made me feel seen and affirmed!! It became one of those little things I carried with me — a reminder of how beautiful I am and how it feels to be spoken to with kindness and admiration.

And then there was his creativity. 🎨

Uncle Gilbert used to write me letters when he wasn’t home, and I still have one saved from Christmas 1990. He would always make sure the envelope was customized, hand drawn and colorful! The pages had 80s b-boys in Adidas tracksuits, big shell-toe sneakers, bucket hats pulled down over their eyes… and he would often tag my name, “Nikki,” in graffiti on the top of the letter!!

Looking back, I can see how much of that stayed with me. He planted something creative in me without ever knowing it. Even years later, I ended up doing my senior project at Temple on graffiti in Philadelphia.

That’s the beautiful thing about our impact on one another — sometimes we never know the seeds we plant in people.

When I think back on the memories, I don’t just see my Uncle there. I see little pieces of him that are still a part of me to this day!!

His words. His creativity. His style. His spirit. His memories.

And I’m grateful I get to carry those pieces with me. 🕊️🤍

Rest peacefully, Uncle Gilbert. You will always be a part of me. Love you forever!!

Remember photo albums? Ones you could actually flip through and get lost in. Now everything’s a quick pic, a quick post, a quick scroll past.

When’s the last time you slowed down enough to just be somewhere — instead of rushing to capture it?

Give yourself a memory your mind holds onto, not just your camera roll.

🤭🦈 Little Nikki wouldn’t believe the day we had finding prehistoric shark teeth on the shore of #CalvertCliffs Maryland!! 😍

I was a little too hype when I found my first one, my sis @dee.blessed1 found one soon after! We left with about 6 baby shark teeth. Looks like a mix of thresher, extinct great white and sand tiger! 🤓

@sharkweek starts tomorrow! 🥳

My sis @dee.blessed1 knocked this one out the park! They didn’t even taste like imitation crab! 😮‍💨🤤
