Today, our little chaat house that could turns 17 🌹🙏

Seventeen years of the most incredible people - gathering, cooking, laughing, eating, sweating, scheming, feeding, figuring it out, and somehow convincing this beautiful, magical, weird little town to keep a place for Indian street food in their heart.

Making it this far does not happen alone. It happens only with a crew, past and present, who have poured their talent, energy, sweat, humor, and heart into these walls.

It also doesn’t happen without Asheville. Our home. The community that has supported this scrappy chaotic and magical restaurant through all the highs, lows, weirdness, change, and everything in between. We genuinely would not be here without any of you ❤️

And this anniversary feels extra special because we’re sharing the week with another pretty enormous milestone: the launch of our owner & chef @meherwanirani’s first-ever cookbook. 📚 A book that, in its own way….tells the story we’ve been living here for 17 years.

Join us today, Asheville. Get in on the love, the chai, and all of the delicious chaats you know and crave 💥
Love you forever & always.

sometimes in life, you know a magical thing is unfolding in real time.

I started working with a career coach (hey @sarahwagonercoaching!) in January because I wanted to be super purposeful about where I spent my creative energy this year. she asked: "if you could assemble a panel of amazing women to talk to as a moderator, who would be on it?" I hemmed and hawed and said I'd never moderated a panel and she said just name people already! The first name I spoke was @chaipanimom's, a woman I've admired and grown to truly love.

smash cut to Monday night, where I sat right next to Molly and helped lob some questions at a panel of geniuses (Avengers, assemble!!) who could've talked for hours and never stopped riveting the room they were in.

the @chaipani team is an incredibly special one. they are loose and funny and joyous and not taking themselves too seriously while also holding what they do with such reverence that it feels like holy work. as a patron, I've always felt the steady undercurrent of their staff's shared purpose and mission (mastery in servitude!!), but getting a peek behind the curtain, both in the pages of Molly's fantastic book Service Ready (out now!) and IRL on Monday cemented it for me. these people are the real deal...as good as they come.

I was so fortunate to sit with Molly and Meherwan and what was then an empty room back in 2024, doing a first look of the new Chai Pani space for @gardenandgun. The closing line of the article I wrote quoted a giant mural, Chai Pani Zindabad, which Meherwan loosely translated for me as "Chai Pani Forever."

Because I am corny if nothing else, I recorded a voice memo for myself in my car leaving that interview saying that the kind of passion, kindness, excellence, and warmth I was getting from those two was exactly what I was looking for in this job. How incredibly lucky I feel to have gotten the opportunity to go back to the well on Monday to support a woman whose life, influence, and work are a blueprint for female excellence...a good neighbor, a good leader, and, it just has to be said, a knockout. I hope you'll read and relish this amazing book. all of it, gratefully, tearfully, zindabad. ❤️🐅

The hospitality community is truly one like no other, y’all ❤️‍🔥 Today, our co-founder & Chai Pani mom extraordinaire, Molly Irani, releases her first book - Service Ready: A Story of Love, Restaurants, and The Power of Hospitality out into the world!!

Last night we got to celebrate its debut, our story, & even more so - stories of the incredible folks in our community…
Dinner was crafted by the masterful @dawes.matthew of @thebullandbeggar, @keeppushingchef of @montgomeryskyfarm, and our very own @nicholasrbarr of Chai Pani. Weaving their own tales and ode to Asheville into dishes from the night like a rabbit & pistachio pâté en croûte, guinea hen roulade, & lamb biryani boudin (!!!!) 🥹

Thank you to all of you who joined us last night. Thank you to the magnetic @mcmscott for being our voice of joy for the night. Thank you to our superhero Chai Pani team for bringing the magic to life. Thank you to our entire Asheville community, none of this could happen without you ❤️🐅 OK LOVE YOU

I don’t know if you know this, but in the world of broke, unsuccessful bands that not many people care about- there’s this PHENOMENON… whenever we attempt to record a live show, SOME kind of jinxy failure of equipment or communication or people ALWAYS happens somehow- & it never gets recorded. It’s Freaky!
I didn’t think Live albums were a thing anymore- but recently, a lot of people have been asking for a Live Floating Action album (this is true, i’m not doing that thing where bands possibly stretch the truth ‘so many people asked for this’😂).
Then we played at Eulogy 12/20/25, didn’t even ask or try for a recording, but the great sound engineer Jess Fox @storiesofastranger recorded the show, sent me the tracks, i mixed it onto cassette-
& now we have a Live album! Out today, streaming everywhere. Big thanks to Kyle @airloom.music for mastering it & getting it a’streaming! 🌸
