EMERGENCY FUNDS EXIST FOR EMERGENCIES!

3 weeks without work.

Did I panic? No. I had money banked up on the sideline in case this happened.

Did I try and pick up extra shifts at my part time Endo gig? Also no. I wanted to actually rest and recharge.

Did I follow up with the CE company multiple times without any response? Yes.

The main points I want to get across are at the end on the slide set. I’m very thankful I had the common sense to have an emergency fund for this exact type of situation.

Have you had to use your emergency fund? How about missed a few weeks of work due to credentialing issues? Drop a comment in the comment section so others can learn! #crna #srna #nursingstudent #emergencyfund #anesthesia

Ever wondered what happens to the CO2 you breathe out during surgery? 😮‍💨

In a closed system, the inspired gases are delivered through one limb of the circuit while the expired gases exit the other limb. The cool part is that our CO2 absorber leeches the CO2 & allows the anesthetic gas that was administered in the previous breath to be “recycled” in the next breath, overall reducing the anesthetic requirement (given that fresh gas flow is adequately low to achieve this). We can also preserve heat & humidity as well so we are not drying out the membranes that line the airway tracts.

When CO2 chemically reacts with the soda lime CO2 absorbent, it turns purple, so that’s pretty cool too!

Nice lil trick you can use when your simple mask tubing doesn’t reach the auxiliary port on the anesthesia machine & you want to free up your hands 🔥
