Just to be clear, moving beyond GDP does NOT mean halting growth all together!!! Especially for sectors we NEED for a just green transition like housing, renewable energy infrastructure, healthcare, public transportation, etc. And especially for countries of the Global South which have long been economically disenfranchised and NEED room to grow too. The point is to stop treating growth for growth’s sake as the ultimate goal. We should grow what’s good for us and the planet and actively DEGROW overconsumption and harmful sectors like fossil fuels, the military industrial complex, fast fashion, and others. It happens to be @climateweeknyc here in New York. So let’s talk about all the seeds we’re growing or sowing individually and together 😌🌱✨🌍. #beyondgdp #postgrowth #greentransition #degrowth #climateweeknyc

🎬 Come join Science for the People and DegrowNYC for a free screening of "Earth's Greatest Enemy", a documentary produced by The Empire Files' Abby Martin. This two-hour film investigates the hidden and unreported environmental costs of the world's largest institutional polluter, the US military, and draws the link between US empire and accelerating climate destruction. After the film, there will be an interactive discussion where we will collectively explore the information presented in the film and the urgent need for anti-imperialist, anti-militarist struggle in the face of climate catastrophe. See you there! ✉️ RSVP link (also in bio): tinyurl.com/SftP-Degrow-EGE

Boycott Rockaway Ocean Club & all of the businesses in the Riis Bathhouse! "Rockaway Ocean Club" is a flimsy privatization scheme by Aulder Capital, CBSK Development, Brooklyn Bazaar, and Investo Capital (among others) to turn public space into a private club. Riis was built for all of us & has been kept alive by working class & immigrant & Black & queer & trans beachgoers despite decades of abandonment. Privatization is theft! Riis needs care, not gentrification! Pledge to boycott the private club (aka Rockaway Ocean Club) taking over the Riis Bathhouse. This means: 1. DON'T BUY ANYTHING AT THE BEACH CLUB, BARS, RESTAURANTS, HOTEL, AND POOL: Don't buy anything there, don't drink at their bars, don't swim in their pool. They've sunk an astonishing $88 million into this thing and don't have a clear path to profitability. Let's make sure it fails! 2. DON'T PERFORM AT OR ATTEND ANY OF THEIR EVENTS: They're trying to gentrify us out of our own beach, so don't give them the delight of queer culture and performance! They don't deserve us! 3. CHOOSE SOLIDARITY: Riis is Riis because we love and care for each other. Bring snacks to share, support the other businesses on the boardwalk that love us, and keep coming back to the beach! Rockaway Ocean Club has threatened to open in summer 2024, July 2025, and August 2025, long before this 2026's botched July 4th announcement & it’s end-of-July 2026 postponement. Let’s make sure their grimy business plan stays unprofitable! It’s still THE PEOPLE’S BEACH! RIIS BEACH IS FREE!! xoxo, Riis Beach Bloc Association

In September 2020, AIA New York’s Board of Directors issued a statement calling on architects to no longer “design unjust, cruel or harmful spaces of incarceration within the current United States justice system, such as prisons, jails, detention centers, and police stations.” It also announced that AIANY would “refrain from honoring work that it considers antithetical to the AIA Code of Ethics, which states that the works of architects should ‘enhance and facilitate human dignity and the health, safety, and welfare of the individual and the public.’” On January 27th, having long abandoned its BLM-era pledges, AIANY is hosting a presentation at @centerforarch about the in-process Brooklyn jail’s “design and delivery approach,” featuring senior leadership of the firms and agencies responsible for its construction: @nycddc, @hoknetwork, and @aecom. Join us for a picket of the event, with a focus on flyering guests as they enter and leave the 9:30–11:30am event. Let us make it loud and clear that New Yorkers reject the expropriation of public resources for the caging and immiseration of our neighbors! Time: Tuesday, January 27, 9am–12pm Location: @centerforarch (536 LaGuardia Pl, Manhattan)

AFRICAN LIBERATION DAY RECAP (05/24/2025) Thank you to everyone who celebrated African Liberation Day with us this past Saturday. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who was involved. Thank you to the organizers who tabled and joined us in conversations about Pan-Africanism and internationalism, to the performers, to @sambuxanyc for catering, to @nycpochealingcircle for the free reiki, @julz_santana for the free haircuts, and to everyone who donated so that we could raise money for ALD programming. Also thank you to @glegare73 for capturing some amazing photos!! African Liberation Day is a call to action and a day our Pan-Africanist, revolutionary ancestors founded so that we can recommit ourselves to the struggle to realize the liberation and unification of Africa under scientific socialism. It is a day we use to remind ourselves that, as Africans in the diaspora, our fate is tied to the continent. In addition, ALD is a day that we use to honor our martyrs while marking our onward progress and highlighting the necessity of political education and organization as we struggle to build a new world for ourselves and for future generations. The Alliance of Sahel States serves as a beacon of hope in our struggle for Pan-Africanism and we must not only defend it, but deepen our commitment to building Pan-African unity. Furthermore, we must understand that our struggle for a unified socialist Africa does not exist in a vacuum. It’s imperative that we organize for a reunified Korea, a sovereign and socialist Puerto Rico, a free Palestine, and for an end to U.S. hegemony. In the words of Che Guevara, “There are no boundaries in this struggle to the death. We cannot be indifferent to what happens anywhere in the world, for a victory by any country over imperialism is our victory; just as any country’s defeat is a defeat for all of us.” OUR UNITY IS OUR STRENGTH! FORWARD EVER, BACKWARD NEVER! #USOutOfEverywhere #AFRICAMUSTUNITE #ONEPEOPLEONENATIONONEDESTINY #ORGANIZE

📍RSVP Link in BIO! Join us on Sunday, March 16th @recirculation.nyc for a discussion + Q&A on countering zionist narratives of scientific and technological progress with a new vision of ecological sovereignty within a liberated Palestine. Come learn about how knowledge production became a powerful tool in sciencewashing and greenwashing the brutal occupation in Palestine. In this discussion, we expose the fragility of the zionist entity through countering the narrative of "progress and innovation" within the context of ethnic cleansing and apartheid. This event also features @DegrowNYC who will outline revolutionary alternatives to the destructive cycle of war and imperialism; Degrowth and Eco-socialism. *For the safety of our community, masking is required in the space.
