Resonant Mastering's Vinyl Pick of The Week!

The Electron Coast by Delta IV @deltaivband
Released August 11, 2023
Mixed by Erik Blood
Drums recorded at @thee_studio_litho by Matt Bayles
Mastered by Ed Brooks @steelvaportrails here at Resonant Mastering

“The musical world of Delta IV blends sci-fi electronics and prog rock musicality, while never straying too far from earworm melodicism. Jared Pace (synths) and Michael Schorr (synths, drums) combine eloquence with a heavy synth edge, bringing something completely new to electronic music. In the process forging a bristling sheen to their futuristic sound.”

Bookending my heart surgery in June and August was the reissue of the album "II" by @deltaivband along with their debut SFI release "The Electron Coast".

I had previously been unaware of the Seattle / Los Angeles synth and drums duo until they reached out and sent me the unmastered version of "The Electron Coast". It was refreshing to hear another band out there that is also mining sonic territory not dissimilar to Zombi or my own project (and label namesake), SOMAFREE INSTITUTE. The combination of live drums mixed with synths playing "traditional song structure" songs seems to forever be the odd man out in contemporary music.

There are still copies of the exclusive and standard editions of both records available on our Bandcamp page. Vinyl pre-orders are FINALLY all shipping this week.

The musical world of Delta IV, aka Jared Pace (Keyboards, guitar) and Michael Schorr (Keyboards, drums, cymbals) is a sleek and futuristic one. The prog/electronic duo from Seattle make music that combines the sonic worlds of hard driving electronic with chromed-out dystopian rock. Live drums create a solid foundation for the duo to get cosmic with synths and guitar.

Following up their 2021 album II, Delta IV are offering up the intense, heady, and cosmic The Electron Coast. Bringing to mind fellow space travelers Zombi, SOMAFREE INSTITUTE, and Detroit's Voyag3r, Pace and Schorr have made an album as hard-driving as it is melodic and cosmic.

From the monolithic album opener "Automata" to the buoyant and ethereal "Giants Walk Here", Delta IV continue to hone their sound to a fine, steely point. Title track "The Electron Coast" brings to mind early 80s Genesis, while "Tempest" glitches and buzzes with electrical glee.

The Electron Coast is power electronic at its finest, and sees Delta IV evolving their chromed-out sound to new sonic realms.

Here’s my top 12 records of 2023 (in no particular order). I’ve agonized over this list for days now, and I could easily talk your ear off about another two or three dozen records I enjoyed over the last twelve months. Suffice it to say that it was another fulfilling year of musical discovery for me. So many thanks to all the artists and labels that shared their talents with us.

1. Ball - Midnight Heat
2. Delta IV - The Electron Coast
3. Demonio - Reaching for the Light
4. Doug Tuttle - Keeping Alive
5. The Library of the Occult Electronic Orchestra - Dracula (1897) 7” Single Series
6. Graven Dagger - Graven Dagger
7. Howling Giant - Glass Future
8. Ivy Chalice - Nachtmahr
9. Modoki - Atom Sphere
10. Quest Master - Sword & Circuitry
11. REZN & Vinnum Sabbathi - Silent Future
12. Spotlights - Alchemy for the Dead

End of the Year Update

I realize it’s been a little quiet over here lately. Seems like a good time to do an end of the year rundown and update on releases.

First of all, thank you to everyone who has picked up our releases and supported the label this year. I greatly appreciate it. I realize it’s been a little rocky and a lot of releases got delayed. Between my heart / health situation and managing the label on top of the printshop it’s been a bit of dance. I definitely underestimated production time on packaging and assembly of a number of releases this year for a multitude of reasons. When I started the label I decided I wanted to screenprinted all of the packaging so that all of our releases would be handmade (but professional looking). As a largely one-person operation this has been a struggle to maintain this year given everything that has gone on in my personal life.

That being said, I am not a fan of over promising and under delivering regardless of what it going on. I apologize to everyone for these delays. Going forward I won’t be putting up pre-orders until all aspects of a release are finished (or most of the way through the production process).

I will be spending December printing and assembling the packaging for Delta IV, MCS and Jake Schrock. Anyone waiting on orders for any of those should be receiving a shipping notification before the end of the month. As a thank you for your patience and support you will also be receiving a one time 20% discount code.

Once all of those are completed and shipped I will finally be able to move forward with all of the releases I have planned for next year. We currently have new records / cassettes scheduled from Hoverkraft (@bentwarp) Justin Sweatt (@straighupsatan), @alone1980, SOMAFREE INSTITUTE, Pale Endless (@noiseatron), @blutbrauer, Steve Moore (@enhancedhumanoid), @mnemonicpulse , @elrondislove , @xardofficial, @exnihilo, @luke_requena

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE SUPPORT AND PATIENCE 🙏
