🩷🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 Our Poetry workshop at the Quirky Crow Bookstore @thequirkycrowbookshop with the brilliant San Ramon Poet Laureate, Queer, Iranian Poet, Jaz Sufi @calamityjaz was uplifting and just what we needed; in her words, “Self-love when the world is on fire is an act of resistance. We deserve to be here, regardless…”

Thank you Jaz for leading the workshop and Julie for hosting us; thanks Krista, Taylor and Elizabeth for organizing. Thanks Stephanie, Anu, Jamie, Laurie, Lainie (PFLAG Tri-Valley), Shailaja, Abha, Dan, Susan and so many community members for being there… over 20 people showed up reading, discussing and creating their beautiful poetry. 🩷💜🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

We are stunned by the beauty of, “Someday I’ll love Jaz Sufi” by Jaz Sufi (she/hers) and the poetry people created from prompts and shared. And now, inspired, we go on to create our own poetry, art and joy. 🩷

#DEITraining - Our Board is so grateful to go through a DEI training conducted by Dr. Hong Nguyen, Director of Student Services and Educational Equity at San Ramon Valley Unified School District.

It was so powerful to examine “Our Stories, Our Why; Overcoming Barriers and Challenges” as we talked about how organizations embrace cultural humility, our personal and shared values, examining unconscious biases and how they result in systemic oppression - and most importantly our vision for how our PFLAG Chapter will address inclusion going forward. It was truly lovely to discuss our values of “”Trust”, Courage”, “Pride”, Kindness”, “Integrity”, “Making a Difference, “Compassion” and “Family”.

We are so grateful to our School District for our collaboration over the years. We thank our Board Member and Membership Chair of a million hats, Krista for reaching out and organizing the training.

Thank you @cocofamilyjustice for providing us this beautiful space for a meeting! It was a long, fruitful day with our Board Meeting and our third strategic review on smoother communication, processes and logistics to improve efficiencies. We are grateful to our Treasurer, Jamie, who facilitated this process. Growth can often mean embracing discomfort but we can do so courageously, so that we continue to #LeadWithLove #PFLAG #DEI #PFLAGProud

🥳♥️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 #ThisIsWho (Can you guess who is who?)…
Just a bunch of kids (and fur babies) working to create a just and inclusive world for LGBTQIA+ people, their loved ones and allies! (And there are many kids supporting them - it takes a village!)

It was fun to pull out our childhood pictures and take a walk down memory lane. We all started somewhere - as kids who were upstanders and are now advocates. (🐾And of course fur babies remain babies at any age).

🫶🏽🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈We also want to remind every LGBTQ+ kid, youth and adult, you’re not alone.
