A quiet week. Thanks to the overwhelming number of people who have messaged me, and the passionate locals who have already emailed or met with me to generously share their feedback and ask to get involved. Grateful is an understatement. We’re just getting started.

What a phenomenal night.

To be able to rub shoulders with giants from right across Australia's political, legal, media and civil society landscape, all in the same room, was something pretty special. We are so grateful to be able to bring together all of these incredible people in the same room in order to support independent media

A huge thank you to our wonderful MC Wendy Harmer for guiding the evening, Cathy Willcox for donating her legendary cartoon for the raffle, Grace Tame for missing out on Ministry of Sound to come draw the raffle, to the incredible Dr Mohammed Mustafa and Doctor Matiu for delivering such a thoughtful and powerful keynote address on Gaza and the media. We was also loved being surrounded by so many outstanding independent journalists who continue to do the hard work of holding power to account.

More than anything though, thank you to everyone who has supported Michael West Media over the past 10 years. Our readers, viewers, subscribers, patrons and donors are the reason this organisation exists. Independent journalism only works because people choose to back it, and we never take that support for granted.

Working in news, it's easy to get caught up in the next deadline and rarely stop to reflect on what we've built together. Last night was one of those rare moments where we could step back, look around the room, and appreciate the impact that fearless, independent journalism can have.

We're incredibly proud of what our team has built over the past decade, and even more excited for what's ahead. Here's to the next 10 years. - Josh/MWM team

Co-founder and Director at North Sydney Independent Denise Shrivell says Australians must become more informed and engaged when it comes to voting.

In her keynote address, Shrivell says voting is a “fundamental pillar of our precious democracy” and without it, things would change “for the worse instantly”.
