A couple of weekends ago @dennisashley_ and I headed down to the Hill, partly to help @jesseyates_ and @liamyates prep for @taurusmountainrace , but mostly for the vibes. You learn the most when it's chill and you're with good people
.
We stuck some kit on the bikes and spun down over Ashdown, before grabbing some snacks and heading up onto the Downs. Hanging out around the bivvys made for such a rad evening, chatting bikes, kit, and retelling stories
.
On Wednesday, Liam and Jesse head in to the mountains in Turkey for what looks like a brutal first edition of the latest Mountain Race. A night in Sweet Sussex probably didn't replicate what they're heading for, but it was definitely a much needed escape for all four of us. It reminded us to make the most of every day

Friday 5pm down tools. Head south accross Æskrdun. Meet some freinds. Head up onto the hill. Chill, eat, sleep. Saturday spin down the road for coffee, to meet Pip and the dog. Do another lap of the Hill. Second breakfast. Head back north on some new and some old roads. Refresh, replenish. Sunday pancakes. Head east accross the Weald. Catch up with the outlaws. Finish a lap of the lake. Head back home on my favourite trails, past my favourite tree. Drink beers 🍻

Riders rolling into the finish line with stories to tell. All afternoon, into the night and even after we went home!

The first riders flew round to finish at roughly 6:30pm Saturday afternoon. We then got word from our lanterne rouge group of 3, who kept moving all night to come in at 9am on Sunday morning! Kudos to those and everyone in between 🤝 #SSXMysteryTour

We’ll call that a success! Well over 100 of you took on this year’s route and it’s been amazing to hear everyone stories from the day!

Thanks to all the riders who took part, to the friends out on course, our photographers and everyone who helped us out at the finish 🫶

We'll mix it up and do road on the 24th June, and the 1st, before going back off-road on the 8th
.
Meet at 18:00. Wheels rolling at 18:10. Roughly 1 hour (ish) loop. Roughly 20kph average speed (depending on who turns up). Message for more details if you need

Geraint Thomas, British Cycling Hero 🟡

It seems a fitting day to bring out some old pics from 2014 at the Catford Banks team awards dinner given that today is his last day as a professional bike rider.

G is an absolute gent, and anyone who's met him would say the same. It's been an honour to watch his career, and that win atop Alpe d'Huez was something that will live long in the memory.

I only ever raced G once, 2014 British Road Champs. I pulled out in the second feed zone and G dropped his chain on the first climb and spent the rest of the day chasing a break solo... I think he still nearly got on the podium.

What a career, what a bloke.

Happy retirement G !
